Durandal's Super MEGA MARATHON THREAD!

This is Ali taking the board, some of you know Durandal already. He's just an AI that is still in his RAMPANCY stages(think 'Cortana').

Some got annoyed by him, and I've been wondering why. But then I saw the young age demographic of these boards, and it's obvious that 2-6 year olds in 1995 wouldn't have played this game.

Some history. MARATHON was a game made by Bungie, the same developers that created HALO, Myth, etc. They released the first in around 1995, I believe. Then later came along MARATHON 2, and Infinity with the editor tools. The modding scene of this game is still hot, as they just attained the source code for the game. Now, the once MAC only MARATHON(except for MARATHON 2, which has been released to the PC years ago) invades the PC screens.

Why is it such a good game(in my opinion, of course)? I would say it's the story. It excels in what DOOM lacked in.

Enough of the chatter, here's the links to MARATHON 1, and 2.

This is MARATHON 1, or the 'remade' MARATHON rather. Downloading the MAC versions of the MARATHON games is still illegal, but people created this remake to make it more compatible with the new enhanced MARATHON engine, AlephOne. It has everything the first game has, and is a perfect replica. Nothing is missing that the original has. All you need to do, is run AlephOne. Enable OpenGL if you want, but full screen causes problems, like system lock ups. I don't really recommend it.

MARATHON 2, the PC version. It's not the new AlephOne engine, but you can use it with AlephOne. All you have to do is copy the resource files. But the regular engine is fine for me. Do whatever suits your tastes.

Many of HALOs references come from MARATHON, such as "They're everywhere!" from the grunts? Came straight from the B.O.B.s(born on board) of the MARATHON ship.

But, if you do not wish to play them, you can still read the terminal text(which is essentially the story) from this site, and many more(such as links between MARATHON and HALO):

Have fun, folks.

Oi, I never tried to "diss" your admiration of the game, or of Bungie, if, in any way, you thought I had. I have admiration of Bungie as well. Myth was one of the first games that I really got "into." It was a challenge to me, as I was around nine at the time. Although I still never finished that last "world", if you will.

***INCOMING MESSAGE FROM DURANDAL***

Sorry, but the theory lasted a lot more than a month. The MARATHON story web site has been connecting and publishing theories for a little under three years. The theory did not originate from a month old post.

And I am not posting this as a theory, but as an introduction to the MARATHON games, as many haven't had the pleasure of playing this game. I want people to play one of the old, but excellent games that was developed by Bungie.

Sincerely,
Durandal
