I am going to create a new game!

Ok I got this cool idea for a new game and I need help. First let me explain what it is:

This is a First Person Multiplayer mech shooter game. You host a game on your own computer and wait for other people with the game running to detect your server. There are two teams each with one base. I have the colors of the team planned out and one map already drawn out.

Basicly the object of the game is to kill off the entire other team. You join your game and select your mech then outfit it with the weapons you like. You start out at your teams base in your hangar. I will try to put voice chat in the game so that you can communicate faster and easier. However, each team will have their own text chat as well as open (all) text chat. As well as individual chat (player to player)

The voice chat is a radio, and there will be many channels to choose from. There will be map all voice chat, team voice chat, and player to player chat as well. The maps are going to be huge.

I however have no coding experience no photoshop, but I do know how to model. I am hoping someone can put a few links up to a few tutorials to coding, animating and programming.

Also if anyone could do a little file swapping with me (not telling specifically cus the mods say "no warez") that would be nice to. I'll try to put all my ideas into the game but the more hard to do and stuff that takes up to much space might not be put in.

I do not know how I might get everyone with the game to link up though, I mean do I have to have a huge server? Or does someone have to host it and the code will find it?

Here is the basis for each teams skin and its logo:

Camoflage green and dark yellow team:

Midnight black and maroon team:

Image

Those pics are the basis for the skin on the team mechs, there should be those colors and lines (exact pattern) going all over the mech. Like the red on black teams should have a red stripe going down the back of its arm.

I do not have any designs for mechs or vehicles however. Feel free to psot em here. Do NOT post any copywrited material or material you don't want people stealing. If you post it here and I deem it suitable to put in game I will model it (or maybe someone else :wink: )and put it in-game.

If you die you can still fight the enemy on foot or with a team member in a vehicle located at your base. There will be 8-12 player teams (if possible). At max if it is 12 player then there should be at least 24 players per server.

I will e-mail a video game company and ask them how to get started (possibly bungie). Mods please do not put an annoucement on the halomods homepage because I would hate to start this project and have to stop because of something.

I have a really cool map drawn up right now but I won't post it here because I don't want people stealing it. I am hoping to also have the maps have a night-and-day. One of the utilites I will have on mechs will be flares. The flares will shoot up into the sky and be seen for miles around.

Also post some ideas for maps to (must be BIG and I mean big)

Tanks, jeeps, helicopters will probably be some of the vehicles you could use. You could also park your mech and go off on foot.

I might use this as an entrance to a college sometime in the future when I become a game developer!

This is planned to be made in gmax or a program that is free.

Got ideas? Post em!

Please post links, and tutorials, and stuff!

Goodbye?? :? :shock: :?:

I read a tutorial (well part of it) on programming C++ but I didn't really get past the basics... just know stuff like how to write a messag thingy like:

er... nvm I forgot how to do that to.

Oh yeah, I would LOVE to learn how to program.

yes, i am moving into advanced C++, but how the hell are you going to make a game if you have no idea how to program?...lol

Ya,I tried learnig java,but I prefer visuals to alot of code.Just makes my life simpler.
But if you want to learn a little on making games.The best way is to see how it works.So go to this site,and view codes for games.
www.vbcode.com
Thats how I learned alot about programming.From watching others

Programming is not something you can just pick up. You need tons of practice with programming languages to become fluent with it, much like a real language. C++ is the language the professionals use, and it's not an easy language to master. Try learning Object Oriented Programming with classes, structs, pointers, stacks, queues, linked lists, and binary trees.

Sounds to me like you're going to program an engine along with some sort of teamspeak software. You've got high hopes, and that's good, but it's just not that easy. It usually takes degrees in Computer Science to accomplish the tasks you explained.

If you really want to get into coding, take your Computer Science high school classes. That'll give you a foundation in programming that you need if you want to make games in the future.

Other than that, I recommend that you make a mod instead of a full game, and find some programmers to help you out.

But Hell, you have ambition, I bet if you really want to make a game and are willing to put forth effort for it, you're more than likely to accomplish it. Good luck to you. :)

Ya I know it won't be easy, but I think it's possible. And the rest of you:
but how the hell are you going to make a game if you have no idea how to program?...lol
I intend to learn.

So still, anyone seen any vehicle animation tuts I can use?

Also I'm not only ding this because I want to havea fun game to play, it's to help me learn this stuff early, I don't wanna wait through highschool just and to college for this.

Question:

Can I use gmax's MAXSCRIPT to code, program the entire game?

I am pretty good at typing and fast at it to, I think it will be pretty easy to learn. mo, don't yell at me for being ignorant...

I will edit this post later on with a pic of what the level I have drawn up will look like.

I sit just me or does halomods seem really zoomed in now?

Also I've got a freind who can, once the games completed, try to find security holes and back doors and stuff. That way hackers cannot hack you.

EDIT anyone know where I might get a free compiler? not that one I posted, but like one for real prorgams? I tried this one in gmax and got this error: "arguement error: int wanted 1, got 2"

code i tried:

int main ()

{
cout << "If you are reading this, IT WORKED!";
return 0;

}
