Re: Emblem Discussions
First, I know exactly what every emblem means...Which means when I say people are giving them out to undeservers, I'm correct...
Second, anyone who can figure out how to manually edit the db to add emblems just spent a week on a complicated problem instead of 30 minutes on a simple one, to stop people from complaining...I can only assume they're mentally challenged, since this was probably the absolute worst possible method...It's no wonder the site is falling apart if you spend extra time doing things the hard way...
Third, is it too much to ask that someone who's running THIS site actually know, or have people in the know, who can fix a very very simple interface?..Give Tural FTP access, and odds are I can tell him exactly which line is causing the problems, and I haven't even looked at the code...I just checked...Emblem code is about 150 lines long, nearly half of which is html...It's about a fifth as complicated to create the admin as it was to actually impliment them in the forums...Someone is either lieing, or inept, or probably both...
Fourth, emblems were designed by the community, for the community, it was never their intention to be known by staff, or given by staff, since staff didn't know best when it came to the community...This was at their core, and users of specific areas were given the ability to judge their peers as they saw fit...When you remove the peers from the equation, they die...
Fifth, new emblems only came around about once a year...This isn't because I or others were lazy, it's for the simple fact that it would take me (or colleges) that long to figure out a good emblem to give...Good emblems needed someone capable of honestly and fairly distributing them, and valid reason to actually exist...Since new things don't happen every day, coming up with ideas for new emblems is actually quite difficult...
Sixth, just to show everyone what a inept idiots the administration is, here is the possible problem lines with the emblem administration tool:
require_once("../config.php");
define("SQL_SERVER", $dbhost);
define("SQL_USER", $dbuser);
define("SQL_PASS", $dbpasswd);
define("SQL_DB", $dbname);
$open = mysql_pconnect(SQL_SERVER, SQL_USER, SQL_PASS);
mysql_select_db(SQL_DB, $open);
$userRes = mysql_query("select user_id as uid, username from phpbb_users where username='".$_POST['user']."' and user_password='".md5($_POST['pass'])."'");
Thats it...Thats the only lines that can cause the issues with it...Now, maybe I'm just an expert at emblems and coding and sql, but it doesn't seem like it'd take rocket science to find the issue...Clearly I expected too much of the new administration to do things on their own, like zip their pants and tie their shoes...Given that you're all clearly too inept to handle the simplest of tasks, I now retract my refusal, and would happily help you fix this code, hold your dick while you take a piss, and whatever other menial tasks you seem incapable of...

You are my hero. ;P
Re: Emblem Discussions
I still wonder why whoever is going about these changes won't listen to Forge. I wash my hands of this madness. I'm Staff and I still don't know what all is going on here.
Re: Emblem Discussions
So there you have it. Not only have I been constantly saying I could help fix it, but now even Iron_Forge is offering his help. Get it fixed now, there is no excuse for not doing it the right way.

Re: Emblem Discussions
I'm still curious to learn about these fire emblems, if they haven't been figured out already.
Re: Emblem Discussions
Who's awarding them? It was automated previously. That's a lot to go through for someone to be awarding them manually.
Re: Emblem Discussions
Have they been handed out recently? I haven't noticed.
I've only seen the emblems on NeverShoutNever, SourceGuy, Geo, Detox, Grim and Vegggie.
If anything, it spurs interest for the water emblem. Considering Geo got three chevrons, it would imply he did something significant between the time they were initially handed out and now. But given the accusations of incorrect emblem distribution, it brings confusion into the mix.
Though to me it leads me to believe once again, that its meant to be taken literally. The impact/contributions one has done for this site is represented by chevrons (and the size of the splash).

Re: Emblem Discussions
Both the fire and water emblems are based on a specific number. While it's possible they can be awarded manually, I'm pretty sure it would require someone to manually go through said member's posts to look at those numbers. I don't think it's very viable for someone to do that, which is why I'm concerned that it may not be being awarded accurately.
Re: Emblem Discussions
Interesting... Which puts an end to my previous theory since contributions can't really be measured by SQL scripts (I'm assuming that's whats used for automation ;p)
I'm stumped then. More thought processing required.

Re: Emblem Discussions
I thought it had to do with the number of "red" or "popular" threads started by that user (for fire I mean)?
Re: Emblem Discussions
Emblem system is restored and back to normal.
