End of HaloMods?
Think of it this way:
Your friend lets you drive his car around whenever you want, since he's rarely around, for free. He even pays for the gas (what a friend).
All of a sudden the gas prices skyrocket and your friend tells you that he's going to have to get a new car with better fuel efficiency, and that until he finds a new car, you're going to have to pay for the gas difference.
So what, you don't want to pay for the gas unless your friend gives you the car? How selfish.

Let's look at it a different way. Your friend runs a bus, and with all the ads on the bus, he can let people on for free. All of a sudden, gas skyrockets, and the ads arent enough to cover the price, so he has to start asking for people to pay a bit of money to keep the bus running.
Now one of the riders offers to buy the bus from him, keep it exactly how it was and make it so everyone can ride it for free again, and he'll take on the financial burden of the gas. How nice of that person.

Hizlo says otherwise.
Based purely on the posts here, I'd say Jeff's offer is probably the most highly regarded. He demonstrates a clear knowledge about what he's doing, and appears, judging solely on his post, to be someone who's genuinely interested in helping and keeping the site going. Hizlo is well known, and I know he knows what he's doing, but there have been mixed comments about him and his attitude towards the community. I don't doubt he's a great guy, but I'm basing my statements on the posts, not an opinion about him. I'm not sure what other offer is being considered. I don't see any others that stand out as being well-thought-out and such, none posted before the news article, at least.Hizlo wrote:Kibito had IMed me this morning about this issue Grenadiac. I have no problem speaking with you in private about this matter. I have my own dedicated server so thats not an issue and the financial matter wouldn't be a concern either.
HaloMods has been around for quite some time and I wouldn't want to see it go crashing down like this. Um... again before you make any rash decisions contact me. Don't get all reved up yet, ill speak to Gren about what I can do to help. If I cant then at least the attempt was there.
I know none of you want to see HaloMods die so how would you feel if I were to help out and keep this site alive?

Let's be honest here...I can't see the site being sold to anyone...Anyone who wants to buy the site, is looking to buy a flashy new toy to play with, and within a few months, will get bored of it...And unlike Grenadiac, won't have years invested in trying to keep it alive...They'll flake, change everything, destroy the site, then let it die...
Anyone who offers to "host" the site, is probably going to want something in return sooner or later...If I said "hey, for $500, you can be an admin", the domain might stay up, but at that point, the site isn't halomods anymore...It might aswell be one of the many other similar sites that have spawned over the years...
I like to think there is alot that sets halomods apart from the others...They all exist because they want to be like us, or they don't want to be like us...We are the measuring stick of this community of websites...Halomods isn't just the name of a site, it's a way of life...And no road will be chosen that could potentially jeopardize all that it is, just to keep a name alive...

Anyone who can help should be allowed to... Regardless of their past... But it doesn't mean some should be unbanned to donate.kibito87 wrote:He also told me that I was a prime example as to "why" he left halomods. I can guarantee the halomods community doesn't want a quitter to "help".DarkShallFall wrote:Eternal told me that he would help but he seems to be banned for no reason. So idk people.
Not saying Eternal, but any banned people.

With the servers they are dealing with, they are not paying for bandwidth. Bandwidth is dirt cheap. They are pretty much paying for the CPU, memory, etc.Samusaaron3 wrote:I agree with Iron_Forge. The site changing ownership is out of the question.
I think the site should just change it's hosting service to one with less bandwidth.
I disagree with that. I think that they were banned because they disregarded the rules here on Halo Mods and were banned for it. that shows, that if they cannot respect the rules, then they don't really respect the site. I am not saying that applies to all banned members, but the ones that I know that were banned, were banned for a reason. that reason being, they disregarded the rules.-DeToX- wrote:Anyone who can help should be allowed to... This thread is the announcement.
Gren has already stated that he doesn't want users to go around clicking ads.willtheoct wrote:state that anyone who loves halomods should click and ad..... twice. you know, to avoid suspicion.
Many have offered.willtheoct wrote:considering this is a halo modding site, im sure there are many users with servers that could help handle some of the load.
It is expected, and demanded.Tural wrote:MrMurder, we're going to hold you to that promise.
