HeXTend Map InfoTool Suggestions...

Post by jimmsta »

Currently, I'm working on a small little infotool/map header editor that I'm calling "HeXTend". It allows non-hex literate people to edit the map types so that HMT v3.5 can open it, and they can proceed to edit the map, and also for the people who want to examine all the maps that they have, and find out random information about the maps.

At the moment, the program doesn't load up maps, nor does it load up the map header (I think I'll also include a sbsp reader for BSP-specific information).

What I'm asking here is if anyone knows how to code in VB, a way to read and edit hexadecimal numbers, and convert between text strings to hexadecimal, it would be a great help to me... PM me if you know how to do this.

As soon as I have gotten basic map loading and header editing into the app, I will release an alpha... But that seems so far away as of right now.

For those who do not know me, I wrote a program "WinHME" some months back, which was/is the only GUI for the HaloMapExpander project, which is what started this whole halo hacking scene....

At the moment, I'm working on using the outline for HaloMapExpander (made by PfhorSlayer, in May 2003)... I'm also looking into a more... sound way to create such a program. I figure that c++ would probably be best, but my c++ is rusty... Java would be my more native language, and it would provide cross-platform compatibility. I believe the first version will be VB, then carry on to a java app for Mac users and linux users. I think I'll have to post this in the Mac forums as well, just to see whether there is any demand for such an app.

For the time being, I will be posting my hierarchy charts on my site -- http://www.jimmsta.com/. Just follow the news for links ;)
