Homing Rockets in H2

Post by M.A.C. »

After just seeing the new MP video. I am disappointed with the homing rockets. I think the rocket launcher should just stay the way it is. The new homing module will just make it a newbie weapon. There is no better feeling than taking out a banshee in infinity from the ground WITHOUT HOMING rockets. The great thing about the current rockets in halo is that it requires masterful timing to pull off the best shots(taking out a footsoldier in sidewinder from across the map as he runs) Forgive my use of galaxies terms, but it appears that the warthog has been nerfed. It will easily be destroyed, and now it will be an easy target to take out in one shot. You will no longer be able to dodge the rockets with evasive moves. If your enemy gets one decent shot in, there is no method of stopping it other than getting out and running like hell.(not the best idea when infiltrating an enemy base) The rocket launcher is a weapon used by experienced players, and should not be made into a newbie weapon. You could at least make homing rockets a secondarey fire that takes 3 times as long to shoot. Please express your fellings on this in this thread.

but you will probably be able to turn destructable vehicles on and off, but yeah, the homing will make it a newbie weapon

ok one, i think it only works on vehicles, and it doesnt destroy the hog in one shot just flips and damages it. then the rocket launcher is mostly used by newbs anyway that cant kill anyone else with any other gun, they just keep going for it so i dont see it getting any worse on the n00b side, a experienced player rarly needs the rockets its effective yes but cheap if ur good enough u dont need them. also seems to only work with it zoomed in, and those amazing shots that u speak of usually come from not being zoomed in and/or are against a person not in a vehicle so shouldnt lock on anyway.

and you also have to keep the target recticle on the vehicle for a few seconds before it target locks.

if you notice, it takes 2 rockets to kill somene in a warthog, so maybe they decreased the damage of it.
in saying so, maybe there is another more powerful rocket that is not homing :)

even if it can home in now, it sucked before anyway in any outdoor predicament, because it was so hard to hit anything that wasn't on the ground.

the homing rockets is a nice little component but will get very annoying.
and plus, have you noticed how slow the rockets go?

i agree with mac
hunterxi, thats the point, it takes skill to shoot the rl agaisnt the banshee and those long shots on the hog, and with homing itll be cake like
i too was disappointed to see the homing rockets, hopefully you can trun the m off in the options menu
it just wont be the same, i love lining up and timing a long shot and then then guy going WTF!!!, then saying ns cause you nailed his hog from 150 m
as for vehicle destrustion, hell yeah, its all good!

I agree i was upset with it at first to......BUT bungie is not stupid and we know they will balance it out....come on guys! btw if it does end up being a newbie weapon then .....become a better driver....dodge that shit

edit: but then again we all know how good it feels to have a long range rocket send the warthog flipping to its doom, i dont think i would use the homing thing even if it is implemented

The rocket launcher has always been regarded by "elite" Halo players as either a really "nooby" weapon or a super good one. Most good, and I mean really good, players in use pistols and only pistols. Homing just gets noobier, and I think they might change it a bit. In the video, that was unfair on how the hog was fleeing to the side and wham!, the rocket hits the ground behind hog. Either way, the driver is screwed.

It will all work out in the end.

also being able to board vehicles will get rid of a fun element in halo.

The rockets are a lot slower compared to the original, so i think it will even out. A target lock sound would be cool so you would know to jump out just at the right second.

I'm pro-homing rockets. You're a n00b when it comes to rockets who simply can't get out of the damn way of a rocket in time. Simply turn towards a rocket tracking you (If you're in a vehicle.), go at it at about a 45 degree angle to either side of it, and it should miss you.

that depends if you
A. Notice it in time and
B. They don't make it follow you past that(the programmers, not the n00bs)

yea, and the rockets proboably not programmed to self-destruct when it gets near the target but too only explode on impact... but a rocket that explodes when in range of a target would be good for a anti-aircraft gun for a covenant dropship (the ones destructible like in Halo 2 E3 demo) and for banshees and whatnot
