Extremely non-thought-through,confusing-Bump map tutorial
well to firstly inject an improper bump map, you need the photoshop nVidia plugin...You have your base texture (the visual one) and either, get a new texture or use the exsisting one and conver it to a normal map (you click on the filters drop down menu and choose the last one, the Nvidia one, the normal map filter)
convert it to a normal, save it as a DXT bitmap (whichever, dxt 3 perhaps?)
There, you have your normal map...
Secondly, you need to inject this bitmap....The easiest way to do this is duplicate a bitmap of equal resolution (And DXT type), and inject it over that.
then find the shader of where the bump will be...EG coag_ground (uses the dirt_pebble_bump) go into its lone id in ADI or whiver program allows you to see it and change the current bumpmap to the one that you duplicated...
Its not really a complicated process, its just my explanation of it that will be confusing.
so:
convert
duplicate
inject
relink
voila
I'll update this later...With an actual step by step process and pictures.

I cant do proper bumps either, and I'm also not as special as scott or chad. But I'm still entering . You should definatelly enter. (However, I may end up not entering because it wont be finished due to my tennis try outs )xheadshotmastax wrote:i dont enter since i cant do proper bumpmaps and since im not special as scott or chad

As discussed in the discussion thred prior to this discussion thread about the skinning competition, bumpmaps do not make or break a skin...they have to possibility of adding a bit more of an effect to them or remove it slightly (if the bumps don't look good at all for example), so to base your entry on being able to do something like that alone in my opinion is a pretty poor excuse...the visual bitmaps with the colours etc is what makes a skin good, sure trees and rocks can add to it, and so can bumps, but mostly its the base textures that are going to create the impact...
And also by what you say Faisal, I shouldn't do any mods again because I'm not as special as you with the things you know and have...Watch out man!
Like I don't mean to be rude, but I see it justified by your reasoning for not entering...However, if that's the case, so be it.
Plus there's not reallt a large difference between the proper and non proper.
