PS360
Well, i'm sick of PS3 and xbox 360 fanboys arguing everywhere i go, so i made a little avatar as a statement to my neutrality in the never-ending argument...should i use it?
edit: sorry, the poll is messed up, doesn't matter which yes or which no you put, i know simple math i can handle it

Neat idea I guess, but the execution is rather poor. The orb looks like is has a point, which shouldn't be there. It needs to be much smoother. Notice on the original 360 that the X is embedded as more of an "infinite" crevasse of green goodness. Yours sorta just pops back out. There's no power or depth to it.

Layer styles are useful when they are used correctly, but I'd stay away from the bevel / emboss effect for the most part until you have more experience with it.
I only really use the bevel / emboss effect when adding gloss or a slight sheen to my layer.
Example:
The only thing that differentiates the first block of text from the second is the addition of a layer style.
From my experience, layer styles are mostly useful for adding effects to text. For more advanced graphics, particularly emblems or graphic logos, you would probably want to become familiar with Illustrator or another vector-based software package.
