Energy Sword

Well I plan on posting ever part of my halo project here, so here is part two, the energy sword. This one was given a lot more care than the firebomb, glow effects are 3d and special attention was given to UV maps and textures. The whole thing took a whole day, half of which was rendering it. I hope you all enjoy and suggestions for the next halo piece to do, be it scenery or objects, will be greatly appreciated.

Excellent. However the texturing looks more along the lines of Halo 2's than 3's. I mean the purple bit. However, this is basing it off my memory, which could be off and that it does have the purple.

hmmmm a request....... I'd like to see the plasma rifle. Its sleek metal and the hexagons through it and everything.

Looks absolutely fantastic, as does the Firebomb Grenade. I think it'd be pretty awesome to see one of the classic weapons such as the Pistol or AR (both iconic weapons in the Halo series) redone in high quality.

Wow thanks so much everyone, I didn't expect this much positive feedback.

I think the next one I will do is the Plasma rifle, then (not in order) the needler, and the assault rifle. Somewhere in between all of that will be the spike and frag grenades in one piece. The scale of things I model will pick up as the project continues, it will go from weapons, to small vehicles (mongoose-phantom), to characters, and if that all works out I will end the project with very large space battles with many types of ships. Due to the scale and number of all these things this might take a whole year or more, so you can expect me to keep posting more work here.

EDIT: someone on AIM was wondering my motives for doing all this, and its a long story. I'll try to keep this as brief as possible without making it a life story. Simply if it was not for halo, I would not be an artist, so this whole thing is a giant thank you to Bungie. It is also to inspire the halo community as a whole, for supporting me and helping me grow over the years.

A long time ago Halo:Combat Evolved came out, and the story of it inspired me, a couple years later Halo 2 came out, and I found the huge fan communities. Places such as Halogrid, Halomods, HBO, and Yayap. I saw sigs on peoples messages and I thought it was cool, and I bought photoshop. Then I saw 3d renders on halomods, and I picked up 3dsmax. It all started with that, and I grew to love digital art. About 2 years after I started I had my first jobs, menial things such as bullet animations and intro's to small videos. Then I started getting bigger job offers, and I felt I was not ready. So I committed to myself to this halo project last year, to improve my skill and give thanks. Unfortunately several things came in the way. Such as pneumonia, getting a nice chunk of my index finger sliced off, and just recently getting mono. Its been a year since I said I would do the project and now I have started it.

I'm sorry if I bored anyone with my story, I just wanted to explain things so people would understand why I would commit to such a big project.

Thank you,
Dan Gerstner

Truly breathtaking work.

Sad to hear about your sickness, and loss of index finger. I had pneumonia too, once. I hated it.

Thanks Tom, and I did get my finger put back together, haha. It works fine now, just don't have much feeling in the tip of it.

Thanks, but I don't know what's a keyblade is, are you sure your not confusing my work with Ajemsuhgao's?

And thanks Ravnzcroft, the spike grenade will probably be done for the weekend, it depends on how things go. Sniper rifle will definitely happen too. =)

Yeah, I think I did. I just went to objects > weapons, and assumed all the work was yours. I have no idea how DeviantArt works.

But still, awesome energy sword.

Good to hear. :)
If I may ask, how did it happen?
