just a helmet concept i started up today, took me about an hour to do the sketch, i didn't use a reference picture, just my memory, so rate and comment. ill be painting it up sometime this summer...
UPDATE!!!!!!!
I've been painting with Photoshop and Painter Essentials 2 for about 3 hours now, and this is what i have so far:

to do list:
1. Make visor less firey, and more glossy/shiney (dont know how ot do this, so someone give me some tutorial links preese!)
2. do some more shading/ lighting touchups.
3. color in any white areas left over.
4. maybe throw in a bg?

looks great but I would fix the indentation of his visor, it should be completely spherical.

That's really impressive from just memory. Even with a reference, that would still be some nice work.

That glossy enough? AIM me for the PSD. You signed off literally right as I dragged the file into the window.

its not all that gold, its too orange... not really liking the effect that you used on it either, i was thinking more on the lines of an image reflection..

the best course of action to do is try to mimic actual Sheen. Pick a light angle and find something you like. A car for example, will give you good ideas on how to set up and plan your lighting and glossy look.

ill mess around with terragen to find shadows, and ill use cinema 4d to produce my angles, and lighting effects.

It looks like you painted with a sponge.

i actually used a sponge like brush, but it could just be the details i had added in that you are talking about?

I don't know about you but I like this color for the visor (halo 3's visor is more yellowy)

the visor in your sig looks a bit like a goldish orange yellow... more on the inbetween of yellow and orange... so ill stick to a mixture. but be weary that is NOT the final version. i will be doing some 3d editing as soon as i can figure out why my pen tablet isnt working in cinema 4d >.>
