This is one that I was just screwing around with teh atmospheric effects. It came out quite well I think.

That is pretty good for a first, {G}.
plasmafrag - To get good at this program just read a lot of tutorials and try out your own styles etc etc.
I'm sure I've posted some good Terragen tutorial sites somewhere in this thread.

the maniped one looks more realistic. The pic kinda reminded me of Zanzibar at dusk.

Edit: Btw i found a good site for terragen resources

im pretty sure it also has a link to a plugin that converts Terragen to work with Blender and maybe other modeling programs
