Forgot to mention, the lightning seems a little thick.
Other than that, I really like it.

Well I just realized that one of the rules said that it has to be the same dimensions, so this is my non-rule breaking final:

(Thanks to NSN for his help with one gradient map)

Love it Dsoup. I say that the mc should be blended more with the grass, and needs more action.
But other than those small things, I find it very kool...But maybe that's my instant Halo fanboy bias kicking in

I see the concept you were aiming for, but i personally don't think you pulled it off properly. try to keep away from dense colors, as well. it looks like you flattened the final product and duplicated the flattened layer, setting the duplicate layer's blending mode to overlay.
it's hard to see what all is going on with such dark shadows. the lighting contrasts way to harsh.

What about the amorphous puddles of organic matter?
I personally hate the grassy area and the tree needs something to make it look like a tree...

Actually the only real part of it that I like is the squares  :(
Thank you.

Well first off, redo it completely. Maybe you should spend the time vectoring your own shapes of trees and grass, but you may not want to spend that much time on it. It's all about how much time you're willing to spend. You could also try to make it into the same style as the upper part.
