The Serenity Repository
So I guess now's a good time to open The Serenity Repository, a website I wrote with some consulting from Iron_Forge and some database assistance from Grenadiac. It's designed to be a place where you can easily find mods without all the clutter and bullshit associated with the forums. It retrieves it's content from Serenity patches posted anywhere on this forum (the halomods.com files forum).. So if you post a valid .serenity here (don't rar/zip it) with all the mainmenu and author information, it'll automagically be picked up and added to the repository.
The voting/rating system may be the most unfamiliar bit about it to users.. Just sign in here on files.halomods.com, then head to serenity.halomods.com and you'll be able to rate mods from 1 to 5 stars. Once you vote on a mod, you won't be locked into that rating - you can change it at any time.. The rating attributed to each map might seem strange at first. Currently, each map requires 10 or more votes before it is rated. The votes are averaged, weighted by number of votes, then applied to a bell curve. The more maps that are posted (and rated), the more apt the ratings will be.

Thats super great!
The look and design of the new serenity site is great and it would have been a lot of code to pick up all serenity's, author posting, created by, download count and all that stuff...
Great job <3
This will also encourage people to use serenity's and to not fuck their map so hard its a 50mb patch

The ratings are applied to a bell curve, so the lowest one ends up at 0.00 and the highest one ends up at 5.00.. Even though the top and bottom ratings might be very close before the curve. All of the maps have relatively high averages right now.. It'll take a while for people to start posting "bad" maps before the ratings level out. So don't take it too personally.. yet :p

Not all Serenity's will be accepted. It must have everything complete. And It grabs the Title, Author, Image, and Description straight from the uploaded Serenity patch.Skayter wrote:Wait So If any map uloaded to Halomods thats a serenity is put on there? Because How Will it Get a mainmenu pic... Does it like find an image the height of the mainmenu pic should be?

After having had a chance to analyze how people were voting, tonight I redid the whole rating system.. No real external changes, but votes from people who consistently vote against the grain will count for less. For instance, if someone gives every mod 1 star, their votes will end up counting for about 30% of an average vote. And now, it isn't a flat minimum of 10 votes to get a rating.. It depends on how reliable the voters are; it could be more or less than 10, but still around 10 on average.. A few other small changes, but that was the big stuff.

With the patches in the Serenity Repository, the only thing you need to do, is check the "Use Main Menu" box, and make sure you have your mainmenu.map with the maps you are patching, and it will add the map, with images and all, to your mainmenu.MaxPower wrote:so you still need to add these maps to the main menu correct?
or is the menu slot somehow in there
So, no, you don't still need to add them to your mainmenu...
