I would rather write "a 5 min post" than a bunch of meaningless nonsense. One good, well-written post is better than 100 pointless, poorly-written posts.BADSMILEY wrote:dude it was a joke u didnt have to write a 5 min post just chill man
Thats where you are wrong. read the terms and conditions on the MS dashboard. You are correct, modding the .map's is not breech of copyright only if you edit the bungie textures. Installing the modded dashboard on to your xbox is (or installing a mod-chip e.t.c) this makes modding illegal and does breech copyright laws.theycallmechad wrote:Modding does not breach copyright laws, so long as copyrighted material (maps, Bungie .dds files, etc.) are not sold or distributed. It is not a copyright infringement for me to, say, put a sticker on my Xbox and change how it looks, for instance. If you are selling or giving away Bungie-made content, then you break copyright laws. If you distribute your PERSONAL content via a patch over Bungie content, you give people nothing other than PERSONALLY-created material, and therefore break no copyright laws.
For Instance: If I make a skin, I replace the Bungie textures with my personally created textures and distribute a patch to the changes I made with My personal content. I have not given out Bungie content but have made the changes I made available ONLY to those who own the Bungie maps.
If there are copyright laws broken, please explain to me how.
What was a joke, Im really quite confused.BADSMILEY wrote:dude it was a joke u didnt have to write a 5 min post just chill man

No, this does not breach copyright laws. When you perchase something, you are giving certain rights allowing you to dismantle, modify, or even f**king destroy that item. Softmodding is not illegal even though the files that are involved in the softmod installation are copyrighted.cjmacmod wrote:Thats where you are wrong. read the terms and conditions on the MS dashboard. duh, modding isn't illegal. i talked to bungie, and they said "now that modding your xbox is legal, we don't care if you mod halo 2, just dont talk about it with us"cjmacmod wrote:Well, read the terms and conditions.
I also emailed Microsoft and asked them if modding is illegal and they said yes, because you have to install the new dashboard. Maybe they're wrong.
