[Urgent] AIM not working!

Post by Eaton »

This is the ONLY program that doesn't seem to work with my installation of Windows 7 Beta 32bit. I've tried 6.9 beta and 6.8 stable and the same issue occurs. Now, when I launch the program, 3 things can happen:

1. It won't launch, this just appears: Image

2. It will launch, I will sign in, but when it gets to the "Starting" status, it will freeze for a minute and display the error above.

3. It will work. I was able to get on for about five minutes, but then it just closed and I got the error.

I have tried the compatibility troubleshooter and I have tried running it in compatibility modes. Please help me fix this.

Reinstall Windows 7 Beta with a fresh download from their site, along with a freshly burned DVD.

I'm not doing another reformat. That will be my fifth time and I am tired of reinstalling my things. I do not have $70 to spend on a DVD burner either.

Download Pidgin, it's another instant messenger that works with a bunch of instant messaging protocols. I use it on Windows 7 Beta, so if it doesn't work for you then you did something wrong. It does freeze up a lot when I try to quit it, but that's not that big of a deal.

Does it have a message logger? AIM Pro seems to function correctly, but I don't think it has a logging feature on it.

And yes, it'll do logs. Just be sure to enable them.

I think I got it to work. I think my Visual Studio installation installed a DLL that is used to debug javascript. That was causing the javascript in AIM to crash and close. Deleting the DLL fixed it and it it also a known problem on the 64bit versions of Windows 7 as well.

What was the name of that .DLL, and it's location?

C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\VS7DEBUG.

Delete or rename pdm.dll.
