So, I have $1,100 to spend and I want to get a laptop.
How does this look:
Image
I will be running Photo Shop, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, etc. on it.
I also plan to get Fallout 3 for it, would this be able to run it and have it look good?
I would just buy Fallout for my 360 but I want to have the editor. :D

No to what?
I haven't heard the best about Asus and I know from experience that HP is a very good choice.
The only thing I need help with is the video card, I know that the rest will be more than adequate for my needs.
And with the HP I get free Blu-Ray, 17" widescreen display, AMD Turion, and 64 bit Vista.

The only advantage I see with the Asus is 4gb ram and the graphics card.

HP is overpriced.
Okay lets compare.
First numbers and junk are your hp computers, and the one after is the one I chose out.
Vista Home 64bit (lol not needed unless your upgrade to 2x2 GB sodimms)
Vista Home 64Bit

AMd Turion Quad core. 2.2GHZ 2MB l2 cache
Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4G GHZ 3MB l2 cache

Okay you wont the screen lol, but you seriously don't need it, because your graphics card won't run as well on higher resolutions.
14.1 inch

2GB DDR2 (after upgrade)
4GB DDR2

250GB HDD (after upgrade)
320GB HDD

WARNING, HUGE DIFFERENCE AHEAD.
3450 256MB VRAM
9650M GT 1024MB VRAM
These numbers are core Speeds, Shaders speeds, memory speeds, memory bus, and 3dmark points respectively.
500 500 700 64 1912
550 1325 800 128 5261

And on my great list of mobile graphics, your graphics card ranks 94th, and mine ranks 31st. I believe I won.

OH looks, you can has bluray on a card that won't do well with it, and a screen that doesn't even display the full resolution of it.

Ok, you got me.
Do you have one of those and can tell me how well it actually runs?
I really wanted the 17" widescreen and blu-ray, but the Asus looks like a better choice.

EDIT: How about this-

Also, is WLAN wireless?
This is all that is listed for communications on this one.

I'm pretty sure it is. W probably stands for wireless.
And yes, thats a good laptop too, basically it sacrifices a larger hard drive for a larger screen. Everything else is the same.

I have a 150 gb HDD right now that my whole family uses and there is still 25 gb free.
250 gb will be fine.

No matter what you choose, have it be an Intel CPU. From talking to people, the general consensus is that Intel is much better with power efficiency. Also, Vista x64 is good to have even if you don't have 2 GB. But if you go with the Asus, then that problem seems to have been solved. ;P

Also +1 for an LED-backlit screen.

I'm going to be ordering this today if no one has any objections.

Lol I just noticed it came with a mouse too. That's a lot more efficient if you feel like mapping rather than using a touch pad.
EDIT:
And a bag, and a fingerprint reader.
lol.

I don't care about the finger print read and would rather not use it.
As for the mouse, I got a Wacom tablet for christmas.

It's the Dv7 that I originally posted with a better gfx card and 4gb ram.

Bump

I've never heard of MSI but this looks like a good deal.

I'm not going to be to big on gaming, just enough to run fallout and maby UT3 smoothly.

That's a better deal seeing you don't need a mouse and stuff.
