Firefox very sluggish

Firefox has been really slow lately. It takes literally a minute to boot up and it is still laggy from there. When I scroll up, it scrolls up 5 seconds later. When I click a button, it takes a minute to do it. I compared it with Internet Explorer and Internet Explorer booted up twice as fast and it is very smooth. Any ideas on how to make Firefox run faster? I've always loved Firefox more than Internet Explorer, but I might be forced to switch if this isn't resolved soon.

Try cleaning up Firefox's cache of all your browsing history. Clean out cookies, delete saved files, etc.
I believe the shortcut command is shift + alt + del
Or you could go to Tools > Options > Privacy and choose from there.
Could extensions be a problem? Are you running many?
If all else fails you could always uninstall and reinstall.

I did some Google searching and the problem appeared to be with the checking of updates every time it is started. It runs faster now. But thanks for the help!
