Scratched discs.

OK I had a problem with my 360 so that when ever I played a game whether it be 30 seconds or ten hours the disc would come loose and scratch my discs so badly they were unreadable.

I.e

Now is there anyway to clean them/repair them so they will work cause I don't feel like spending 20 bucks to replace through Microsoft or just go buy a new copy.

Games I have lost.

-Halo 3
-Far Cry 2
-COD4
-Gow2

AND I JUST BOUGHT GOW2 yesterday! *sadface*

Any help is appreciated.

I would be shocked if you could not contact the game companies and get a new disc if you provided the old one was damaged. Meaning, shipping it to them and them shipping you a new disc. In my experience, if you contact them, they will help you seeing you liked the game enough to get it replaced.

It's quite alarming that your 360 is consuming you discs one at a time. I'd look at getting your Xbox fixed before you worry about your games.

But if your games are recoverable I'd suggest two things. One is the most obvious: Buy a disc repairer. They're like $9.99 to $19.99 and they work decently well.

Second choice, and a little less couth, is fixing it with toothpaste. To remove scratches all you have to do is smear toothpaste over the disc in circular motions, wash it off with running water, and then dry the disc with a soft towel or T-shirt. This'll perform a little magic, but don't be surprised if it doesn't mend huge gouges in your disc.

If your Xbox is standing up, lay it down. That's what usually causes the ring scratches.

This happened to my H3 as well, toothpaste didn't work, so I suggest you go straight for the disc cleaning machine.

I contacted Microsoft/Gamestop.

Microsoft wants 20 bucks for them to ship me an new one.

And Game stop WONT DO SHIT.

What kind of toothpaste?

I've used them on audio CD's and it recovered the playability of the CD, however it still looked like it had been gang banged a few times over. I've never used the CD Dr. on a game before. I assume that the outcome would be the same.
I have used the toothpaste trick and it did work for me. I used some Crest with those sparkly whitening strips. I don't think the kind of toothpaste matters much though.

Dr.Cox, I'd invite you to think about this. The toothpaste tricked worked for me, but it might not for you. It depends on how bad the DVD's are scratched in the first place. But think, if the DVD fixer is roughly $20, and that will only fix the DVD's vs. $20 that will fix your Xbox from messin' with future DVD's, I'd suggest going for the real fix and not the temporary solution.
I do agree with V0Lt4Ge though: Try laying down your Xbox before you go and spend much monies.

Let me know if the toothpaste thing works for you if you do decide to give it a whirl. I'd like another witness.

I have to go and get some of that Colgate crap with baking soda... I will keep ya posted.

Also!

Game crazy has disc buffer so I will go see if the 2$ buff will help any.

I have also heard that Crayons ands Windex works...

Was it toothpaste, alcohol, crayons, or Windex that, if left on too long will start eating away at the disc? I can't remember.

ok, my xbox sepulchered up my halo disc, and looking to buy another copy because I'm too damn lazy to send it into m$, but it turns out the local store (not EB or game store, but a store that mainly just buys and sells used games) actually had a disc fixer. if i were you check local stores around you that aren't chains, chances are they'll have a disc fixer.

Recently my cousin knocked over my xbox with my rockband disc spinning. The disc is now scratched. Dr. Cox, did you say Microsoft would send you a new disc or a new xbox. Is there any way I could get a new disc for free? By the way, I am still under the 60 day warranty.

go up to game crazy and they usually clean it for you, if they're nice enough they'll do it for free, if not then it's only like 2 bucks
