Ubuntu/Linux
Ok, first I'd like to thank "WaeV" for making this tutorial on installing Linux/Ubuntu - [Click Here]
So, now that I have it installed, (I installed inside Windows) I think that it's pretty cool. I like the layout, design and flow of it. However, it does have a few flaws that I'd like to get some answers for.
Problem #1 - It's sooooo quiet. I have my speakers turned to their max, the system audio turned to it's max, and the media player's turned to it's max. Yet, I'm still barely able to hear the music that I'm listening to. At first, I thought it might be my speakers/hardware issue, so I checked them. They're fine. So, then I thought it might be a Ubuntu issue, so I booted Windows XP and the speakers were perfectly fine. So, now I just need a way to get louder sound to come out of my speakers, thanks for any help.
Problem #2 - Is there a way to run Halo PC on Linux?

Problem #2 - (I can't remember now. I forget things easily. I'll edit when I remember...)
Code: Select all
cd desktop
lspci > lspci.txt
also do you have a 56k modem in your laptop/desktop?
I had this problem as well. I don't remember what I did exactly.
I think I opened Rhythmbox - the audio application - which put a volume icon in the upper right corner. Right-click that and select volume control. Put everything at maximum.
Also, which version did you get? 8.04 Hardy Heron, or 8.10 Intrepid Ibex? (Just out of curiosity).

I tried the Rhythmbox thing, and when I right-clicked the speaker, it didn't do anything. It did open 1 volume thing, and it was already maxed out.WaeV wrote:I had this problem as well. I don't remember what I did exactly.

Also, I downloaded the newest one on there. 8.10

Alright. What's "Arch Linux"?
Also, is there a way to play Halo PC Trial on Linux?

One of the fastest linux distributions. It's also more of a challenge. When I started with ubuntu, you had to manually configure all kinds of stuff, now it's too easy. So I decided to pick a more challenging distribution.
Ok, go to System > Preferences > Sound and for every option replace "Autodetect" or whatever's there with ALSA.
Then right-click on the volume icon in the upper corner (it's always there, Rhythmbox doesn't have to be open) and click "Open Volume Control". Master, PCM, and Front should be maxxed out.

If following advice from the above links, remember that wine can be installed via the Add/Remove program lists now, and that 1.08 doesn't need a no-cd patch, because it's included.

1.) I fixed the audio, thanks so much! It sounds so much better now.
2.) Thanks for the information on Halo PC Trial, I'll use it later.
3.) Is there a way to install Linux/Ubuntu onto my Modded Xbox Original?
4.) I can't figure out how to upload images to places like imageshack. It gives a weird thing like "file://gage/home/desktop/image" -- That's all. There's no extension.

you can install linux fairly easily on to your original xbox but i am not sure about ubuntu. All the components are there of course except the cd/dvd drive wouldn't read the cd. I think you can install it using a usb key and a a slight hardware mod
Here's the error I get: (Click to Enlarge)WaeV wrote:Did you download the "Ubuntu Resticted Extras" package like my tutorial said? It includes Microsoft fonts.

I'm sure you'll know exactly how to fix that.
Ok, thanks anyways.I don't own an xbox, so as for getting ubuntu on it you'll have to research that yourself.
