What are they, how much are they, and how do they work?

I know they take videos on what is showing on your television. I Google it and I come up with TV tuners and chips for your PC and I know that isn't right. :?

A capture card is a device you purchase which connects to or within your computer. The device has ports to allow you to connect the output cables from a TV or other device (Such as the console itself) to it, which you record using software on your PC. It's generally referred to as a card, such as a card that would be placed in a slot on the motherboard, but you can also purchase external devices, such as ones that function via USB and whatnot.

 That's a bit much for my budget... I'll ask for it for Christmas. Can you direct me to a website that has a variety to choose from?
