Connecting to Xbox Live through Laptop

Ok, I am going to be going to be going to my vacation home soon for two weeks. There is a faint yet strong internet signal down there that my laptop can get online through via wireless card. If I was to connect my Ethernet cable I normally plug into my router to get Xbox Live into the back of my laptop, would I be able to access Xbox Live through that?
I have tried those wireless Xbox Live connectors, but it does not pick the signal up because it is probably to far away.

Probably, although if the connection is faint you'll probably get disconnected frequently.

I know this way works in Vista.
1. Connect the LAN cable.
2. Control Panel > Network Connections
3. Right click the connection supplying the internet, Properties.
4. Sharing tab, Check "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection".
5. Click Ok. You should be set.
This is quite similar in XP. Just different menus if I remember right.

Just curious, does this work on the old xbox and 360? Has anyone tried it?

It is not working!!!!!! I cannot get it to connect! it still says that the Local Area Connection is Local Only. How can I fix that?

You need to adjust the settings on the Wireless Connection, not the local one. It was easy to do on Vista, though I dont know about xp. (I might be mistaken but I dont think you can change the lan settings, unless you have multiple ports)
On Vista,
1. Go into "Manage Network Connections" (Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center) Its on the left side.
2. Right Click on the Wireless Internet that you are currently connected too. Hit Properties.
3. Now, a screen will pop up that says "Wireless Network Connection Properties" There should be two tabs. Bring up the tab that says "Shared"
4. Then click "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection"

I did that, still won't connect.

Make sure your 360 is set to automatically detect settings, it should work. If not, I dont know. I got it work after I finally realized my xbox wasn't on those settings.
