Internet Connection Problem!

Hello. I have had my laptop since about November of 2007 and I have been accessing my family's Internet access point since then without flaw. Until about last week, I tried to connect and it said that there was a DNS error. I could not figure out how to fix it and I noticed another access point from someone in my area and I have been using that for about a week. But now I have encountered the same problem and I cannot get online! The Desktop computer works fine online so it is NOT the access point. It is the laptop. How can I fix this? Please reply soon!
The family network I connect to is a Linksys 2.4Ghz 54Mbps Wireless Router.

Sorry for the double post, but this is a serious matter. It is really important that I fix this or I can get in major trouble. I really need an answer!

Heh, such a coincidence, I was just telling my mom about my laptop having this problem where it doesn't connect the the internet at random times, and I have to reset to connect.

I have reset the router many times and no luck. I guess I need to call Dell...

open a command prompt and type "ipconfig" and tell us what it says for DNS servers and default gateway. also, try typing "ipconfig /release" then "ipconfig /renew" into the command prompt and see if that solves the problem.
last thing; has anyone changed anything in the router's config like encryption method?

I spent all of today and yesterday talking to Dell and we were still unable to solve this problem. Anyway, my Default Gateway is: 192.168.1.1, but I don't see anything for DNS servers.

Can you post a picture of the error or whatever windows pops up when you can not connect? That will help in figuring this out. I've dealt with my wireless router many many times, I may be able to help. As stated before, the router's encryption may have changed, if somebody was messing with it's settings.
You could also reset your modem as well as your router to see if this works. Also, posting pictures of anything else you think might help, probably will.

Here are some pictures:
Now, what can I do to fix it? I have reset the modem, router, and have plugged a the cable directly from the modem into the back of the laptop and I still cannot go online. What is weird though, I get this same problem when I try to connect to other networks as wel...

I suggest it's time to do a bit of elimination. Take your laptop to a Hotspot (Starbucks, or any other suave business like oh-look-at-me-sip-a-latte places and such)
and see if you have the same kind of issue. Just start trying to pop around and connect to or scan for networks.

That's what I was thinking. I will try and go around and find another network to connect to. I'm also going to call Verizon because maybe they can be of more help than Dell... Dell couldn't figure out what was wrong. I even connected the Internet from the modem to the laptop and it still didn't work. I'll see what Verizon says though.

I guess it must be a common problem. I use a Linksys Wireless-G 2.4GHz 54Mbps Broadband Router. But this is what doesn't make sense... I have a desktop computer connected to this network and it
CAN connect to the Internet without flaw!

Excuse my double post, but Cuda, i took your advice and went up to Starbucks. I found out that you had to pay to use their service...

So I found this other network and I connected to that one...
I got online!!!!!!!
That solves it. Something is wrong with my access point. I better call Verizon now.

You mean your stealing someone else's internet?
It's still probably the router. I have a WRT54G.

Most likely. A person from Dell called while I was as Starbucks

But that doesn't explain why the desktop can connect... But you are probably right.
EDIT: I talked to Dell again. I need to call Linksys. They should be able to help.
