HDMI to DVI troubles

Post by uralllame »

I recently made the mistake of buying a DVB Freeview box with a HDMI output, hoping I could play it on my lovely DVI monitor, using a HDMI to DVI cable. Sadly, this is not the case. When I plugged it in and turned it on, I got a message saying "Cannot Display This Video Mode".

After a brief time on the interwebs, I discovered that the problem may be down to HDCP (High Def Copy Protection or something like that). This was brought in around 2005 to prevent people from copying stuff. Unfortunately, this made any non HDCP compliant device almost obsolete. You can get HDCP sptrippers, which remove the encoding, but there are all either:
- Illegal
- Expensive, and/or
- Japanese

Here is an example

So, does anybody have any suggestions/recommendations as to what I should do. Can you at least confirm this is actually the problem before I waste

Those who can't play, mod.
And those who can't mod, mod PC.
