Well, I want to put some homebrew onto my PSP so I need to downgrade it, and I am fearing it may get bricked. I was wondering what this means, and if it can be fixed.

For future reference, all tech type questions belong here. I believe bricked is another way to say locked, the system just completely stops working, it is possible to fix but I don't know how easy it is. If you follow the instructions word for word on a good downgrading tutorial you shouldn't have a problem.

Is it a fat PSP or a slim? If it's a slim there is no need to downgrade, you can just use someone else's or you can make your own battery into a Pandora battery to mod it. If it is a fat them I'm not totally sure.

Buy an extra PSP battery and make a Pandora battery and you won't have to worry about anything. If you do somehow end up bricking when you're downgrading, just pop the Pandora battery in and it'll reinstall firmware 1.5 in any PSP, for fat anyway, you need a different type of battery for slims.

It can be fixed if it does get "bricked". You need to go into your system settings and check what firmware version you have. Just hope you have something around 3.0 or lower. Any higher and it may be a little more of a pain to downgrade. I've been reading a ton about this lately as i've gotten a psp last week and I was hoping to do this.

@Evan. I believe regardless, you need to have somebody that has the original 1.5 kernal or a hacked 1.5 psp. So you can turn your battery and memory stick into magic or otherwise known as "pandora" batteries and memory sticks. Once you have made them into "magic", you can place them into your psp fat/slim and proceed to the recovery menu from there to downgrade.

You would also need to check your motherboard to make sure it's not a specific version. If it is, then I don't think you have any chance at this time.

Well I actually hard modded my battery to turn it into a Pandora's Battery, but after I modded it, it was useless as a normal battery so I had to buy a new one. So my PSP went from firmware 3.60 Official -> 3.71 M33 ->3.71 M33-2 -> 3.71 M33-3 -> 3.71 M33-4. Also it is very easy to mod PSP with 3.xx firmware. Mine was a slim btw.

Why didn't you back up your battery's firmware? :\

no i think he means that wire mod that was on psp-hacks a while ago, but ya id suggest the software way its alot easier and you can convert back if you need to.

I want to do the pandora battery and pandora stick mods then hack my psp as well. You should send me a message on AIM and walk me through it once I get those 2 things. I would really like to do this. I've just been reading and reading to make sure what I do is correct and doesn't render my psp useless. My girlfriend would murder me lol.

BTW, did you have a friend with an already modded psp or a 1.5 firmware psp? < Send PM with answer.
