Installing 3ds Max on my flashdrive.

Post by TomClancey »

As the title suggests, I'm trying to install 3ds Max on my flash drive. I know someone who has done it, so I know it's possible, but I can't seem to do it.

About 1/5th into the install I get some error. (It's different every time, so saying what it is probably won't help.) But if you need to know, the error is either about:
A) Not being able to create a directory. (Though it already had created it, and started installing in it.)
B) Not being able to write this file because of permissions. (Again, odd as it has been installing in said folder for some time.)

My Flash Drive is 2GB and FAT32. (Was FAT, but formatted, and changed to FAT32.)

If it helps, it had U3 on it, but I removed it for various reasons.

i had one with U3 on it before as well. maybe a second formatting would help, although that would be odd.

i'm not sure about the errors, but there may be issues involving registry keys. maybe try and contact whoever had the portable 3ds, or search google.
ASPARTAME: in your diet soda and artificial sweeteners. also, it's obviously completely safe. it's not like it will cause tumors or anything. >.>

I'll try that and see if it helps.

I did contact him, and he told me to uninstall 3ds Max from your computer, then install it on the flash drive.

Oh, and also to put the installer in the flash drive.

I did that, no dice.

That would be so exceedingly pointless. You wouldn't be able to run it anywhere else except for on that computer. So unless you were just doing it to save space, what's the point?
Even if you were able to install it, the fact that you only have one license won't let you run it on another machine.

Listen to BEEF...or try NTSC instead of Fat32.

Really? I was under the impression I could run it on other computers.

Pretty sure what BEEF said was correct. All the settings and crap aren't even stored with that installation anyway, unless i'm mistaken.

Must everyone reiterate what BEEF said? I got it the first time.

(Mostly directed at cryticfarm. No, this is not a flame, but all you said was 'What BEEF said' without anything else. The reason this isn't directed at Kirk is he something other then what he said)

Also, I formatted it to NTFS, though I don't know if it will help or not. >_<

Well, in lieu of 3ds Max, I just put GMax on it. That's good enough for giving demonstrations and such.

(Yes, I know it's a double post.)
