my stupid friend did some dumbshit with my computer and i dunno what he did exactly so would anyone know how to fix this? i used to be able to play dvd's but not anymore and i know he changed something in this window in my attached picture, please help as soon as you can im using the dvd's for storage so thanks snes community.

link to pic:

also at start up for windows xp when you press F2 he changed my video card settings aswell from like 128 to 256 i think or something like that would that have any effect on my dvd playing?

i also cant record to any of my dvd's with sonic record now.

and here is the error i get:

i tried a bunch of stuff and it still isnt working any extra tips?

and what about a dvd decoder? i know i used to be able to play dvd's but my freaking friend...NEVER LET A FRIEND TWEAK YOUR COMPUTER freakin lame anyway yeah help.

ALSO

i lowed my screen resolution to the lowest possible it still said to lower it and my color quality settings to so i know its something else..and i was on google searching and it was a diff problem but kinda the same and it said that your video card driver does not fully support your settings so anything else i should look at? like what else could be effecting my video card i think its something in the F2 setup if he messed with anything else...because the graphic properties thing doesnt have much you could change anyway.

well here is the thing my computer can read the dvd's like the ones i burnt roms to and i can get the roms of my dvd's just fine but i cant play or burn to dvd's i use windows media player and sonic record now so maybe its a dvd encoder or something? all i know is right after my stupid friend tweaked it i could play or burn dvd's..maybe something with the video card settings? and i realy dont care if i can play dvd's on my computer i just wanna burn to them so i can free up alot of room with all my roms i got cuz i have alot now and i dont wanna redownload them just to free some memory up. also i can write to cdr's n such just not dvd's.

is the cd burner the same physical device as the dvd burner? maybe you need to install the latest drivers?

also, your videocard settings are probably fine, but if you're getting problems, i suppose finding and installing the latest drivers would help.

also, the picture links you posted don't work. i think because something automatically shortened the url by putting those periods in, thus breaking it when you paste it here.

I had the same problem with my dvd. You have to have Powerdvd or a program like it. As for the burning i still cant get mine to work so I cant help you there.

not sure. maybe try installing the latest version of windows media player, or asking what your friend tweaked so he can un-tweak it.
