Plasma rifle skin problem

So, I'm making a brute plasma rifle for Halo PC, and I rebuilt Sidewinder with a copy of the plasma rifle weapon and the skins, hoping to just change the dependencies so I can have different coloured plasma rifles.
With me so far?
However, when I inject the new texture over one of the two old ones, both of them are changed.
Why is this?
What do I need to do to fix it?
Any feedback would be helpful.
PS: Am I posting in the right forum?

Rightish forum. Modding discussion would've worked as well. Here's the problem. If you have two different weap tags, they'll still point to the same bitm dependency (by mod2 if I recall). Even if you have two bitm tags, and each weap tag points to a different bitm tag, if those bitm tags point to the same location in your bitmaps.map then they'll still be pointing at the same image. The only way to add a new skin to a new without messing with any existing skins would be to have some way to add bitmap data to the bitmaps.map file. Best work around you've got is maybe using the gravity rifle bitm tag instead. So have your brute plasma rifle uses that as a dependency, and inject your new skin into the gravity rifle instead.
Short:
Go to brute plasma mod2 (fp and 3rd p), find bitm depedency. swap to that of grav rifle. inject new brute rifle skin into grav rifle bitmap.
