As some of you may know, I have an AIM virus on my computer. My brother was using my computer when he fell for a "omg look at this pic of u im gonna put on myspace!" message. What the virus does is automatically send a variation of that message to everyone on my buddy list which infects them.

Ive done numerous system scans which have removed stuff, and I also reinstalled AIM, and all was well for about 5 days. Then earlier today it did it again. Im pretty sure that the virus is time controlled and initiates after you've been on for a few hours. But thats besides the point...

Anyway, I've done some research but not much was helpful. So do you guys have any suggestions on how to get rid of it?

re-do the virus scan, and tell us what you scan with. also make sure you have the latest version of aim, and maybe reinsstall it again.

I used Ad-Aware SE and Spybot-Search and Destroy.

I also use AIM 5.9 because I do not like the new versions.

But I could adjust if upgrading will do the trick.

As far as I know, those don't find viruses. Only spyware and adware.

you could try AVG free edition. i've got it and it works nicely. if there are viruses on my system, AVG isn't finding them.

Alright, now I am scared.

I downloaded the free version of AVG and am currently running a scan. It currently is in the folder C:\documents and settings\my name\complete

At first, it reminded me of a folder where downloaded items would be stored, but I dont have any P2P programs on this computer nor do I engage in any risky behaviors on the intrawebs.

Anyway, AVG is scanning this folder and currently it says I have 10,000 threats and counting. So I went to this folder, and it appeared to be hidden. I typed in C:\documents and settings\my name\complete into the url bar and it took a while to load. So now it opened and I do indeed have thousands of files of random shit.

As AVG is scanning im recognizing names of things like popualr tv shows and movies and games, some of which I have downloaded stuff for and things like Dragonball Z which I know nothing about. So, unless I have had something living in my computer for the past 6 months, it is this virus right now. God this is so strange. I have not noticed anything different in my computers performance at all until last week when I got the AIM virus.

Im so confused...

Now I have 13,000 threats, and by scanning alphabetically its only on "G." This seems unreal...

L.M.A.O... sorry... just reminds me of my old win 98 computer; damn thing picked up virus's like a fat-man to cake...

You are not by any chance running win 98?

Ah christ; sorry man... I really feel like an @$$ now. Sorry; I got mixed up with another computer problem post. It dealt with a similar situation so I got mixed up; Very Sorry. You didn't deserve to be Yelled at just because I didn't realize I was in another thread...

Yea, I am aware that something isn't right, but the weird thing is I have not noticed anything with regards to the way my computer runs or any weird problems up until last week. So whatever has been going on has been happening for a while not has not been picked up by previous scans.


And I already have a Mac...

Edit: So as I'm watching the AVG scan, its still on the C:\Documents and Setting\my name\complete folder, and I pretty much confirmed that what ever is on my computer has managed to download stuff, a lot of stuff, hence the folder named "complete" Ive seen names for Grand Theft Auto, Korn, Kyle XY in HD, (Just to name a few.) stuff I have no connection to...

Thanks, Beef, although I discovered that the other day and I think that solved the AIM virus.

As for this other virus i found, my dad had a copy of PC Cillin 2007 the he purchased so we installed it. The scan went over four hours only to say it was not able to delete the few thousand items it found. I tried to delete the whole folder in command prompt, but the problem is that the "complete" folder is hidden and command prompt says it cannot find the folder.
