feisty fawn rebooting on boot....

ok, so after a bit of hassle, i finally got feisty fawn installed on an older PC i'm hoping to make into a LAMP server, but there's two problems:

1: it reboots after it boots. the pc tests memory fine, POSTs fine, and starts grub. grub says something like "starting stage 1.5" and boots linux, which in turn flashes "starting up" before going to a blank screen, then it apparently reboots, going back to the mem test and so on. i'm gonna reinstall and hope it fixes it, but i think i might just have an ancient hard drive.

2: the only NIC i have for it is ISA, so even though i have the NIC installed (physically) the ubuntu installer doesn't detect it. i think this is just a device driver issue, but i'd like to fix it, seeing as how i want this to be a server, but for that to happen, the NIC needs to be working...

Try installing it with Vmware. It makes it on a virtual machine on your existing OS. Pretty cool, it's how I have Linux set up.

(Though I'm not sure if that will work, or if that's what you're looking for).

vmware wouldn't work because i'm looking for a seperate physical server so i can use it as a personal fileserver/proxy without risking serious damage if it does get broken into for any reason.

Also, i completely reformatted and reinstalled, so i think it may either be a hardware issue, or something wrong with my downloaded iso/burned cd. i think i'll try reinstalling with a different computer tommorrow...
