Black Screen with Null Sounds

Post by Lestatfreak »

I recently did a conversion of scenarios\solo\03a_oldmombasa\earthcity_1. (The streets leading up to Hotel Zanzibar.

For a while I was getting a black screen every time I tried to load the map, except for one time when I spawned out of the city. (Two spawn points were accidently left in the void). Eventually, I figured it must be the sounds, so I nulled some ambient ocean and seagull sounds since I knew I had taken them out to reduce map size. Now, about half the time, I load to a black screen, and the other half I spawn at Hotel Zanzibar. (I currently have all the spawns stored at Hotel Zanizbar or another base location across the map.) If I walk from the Hotel up the street too far, the game freezes. If I walk past the vending machine into the Hotel hallway, it freezes.

I tried nulling the rest of the ambient sounds and even the Sound Environments and Sound Scenery. Every sound in the Scnr that the SBSP referenced is gone. And now the level won't get past black screens at all.

Any ideas?

All right, I'll restart the 9 hour process.

BTW, is there a way to design the map with perfect Scenery placements? I tried hexing it over and got a value pulse error on load in Entity, probably because I took out a few scenery pallete objects and the hex was trying to reference them.

I guess I could make the map with all of the scenery and everything, then null out the things I don't want and rebuild without them.

For what? Does it redirect the bad dependencies?

Well, there is scenery I want to go away that bloats the map size. Should I rebuild with everything, then null out the the spots in the scencery pallette I don't want, then rebuild without the extra scenery?

Yes, try that and see what happens. Some scenery might need to be there though, for the map to not freeze.
