Problem with adding weather

Post by Playkid »

Hey,

First things first, i'm a little rusty to modding since I quit a year ago. But now with the released (great) weather app (as well as the others:)) im am eager to complete at least one mod, for release.

Genereal problem: I tried to add weater to Ascension to see if I could.

So I extracted my ascension.sbsp, used the weather application to add snow, and the injected asension.sbsp into gemeni, and signed. Then I transfered gemeni.map to the dlc folder.
I didn't change spawns, and didn't rename it to Ascension, because i just wanted too see if it worked.

When the countdown reaches 0 the game freezes.

Also, i'm not able to open the map in Entity anymore, and I get this message:
Image

I believe it is a possibility that I may have done something wrong, or maybe it's something I haven't done.

Then I thought I would like to play a mod with weather in it, to see if that was possible. So I download the sppf from this mod: Snowy Coag
And patched Gemeni.

After beeing patched, the map can still be opened in Entity, but when I try to view it's sbsp I get this message:
Image

Instead of renaming to Coagulation, I just transfered Gemeni to it's DLC location (I did re-resign it, in the not-to-be-talked-about way).

All maps (Ascension, Coagulation and Gemeni) where clean.

I don't know if these two problems are related. But to begin with, I hoped someone could help me, by telling me why the game freezes, and if my adding-weather-to-map tryout was correctly performed.

After that, I might need some help with fixing the players spawns, and help with transfering the decals, obstacles and machs along with their reflexives in the scrn(decal pallete, placement, etc.).
But to begin with, i think the best thing will be to focus on the main problem, unless the other stuff is easy.

This thread could contribute to help other people like myself, and i hope it will.
I Hope I have managed to describe my problem in a proper way, and my english is to be understod. I'm from Denmark, so English is my secondary language.

Thanks in advance.

If you would like I can add weather to the map for you. I have already done it for a couple people that had this problem. You don't have to add snow it can be rain as well or even the flood spore weather in the last level of campaign. So you chooose.

You couldn't view the bsp with the snowy coagulation because the user that made it said he couldn't as well. I don't think you would be able to see the weather anyways.

I would really appreciate that, thank you very much :)
Although it would also be great if i could learn to do it myself.

But if you still insist, i would be thankful, for snow weather on Headlong. But how do you choose between the different weather types? Weather drag and drop from another map?

I haven't heart from StalkingGrunt, so i bet he is busy.

If anyone else can help me with this problem, please do so :)

I think people should make patches for all the maps. I see a lot of people have problems trying to add weather, although i dont find it hard myself.

I'm going to bump my topic, because i still need help, Stalkinggrunt is obviously very busy, i'm not blaming him ;) But i am very eager to get starting with my mod.

I still can't get it to work by myself.
So what i need, is a "clean map" Headlong.map, where only snow is added.

If someone could make a .ppf (or something like that), and send it to my mail i will be grateful.

To StalkingGrunt - Just want to let you know i tried writing an offline message on msn to you, so you should retrive it.

But i come to think of the time i accepted you msn request. You where online, and 1-3 sec. you went offline, never saw you online since, so i was thinking maybe messenger made some odd glitch.

But anyways ;) I would love to start modding soon, so whenever you have the time feel free to send the patch via private message feature :D

I'll assume you made obvious mistakes when injecting the weather. Here's a checklist, make sure the answer to every question is yes:

1. Did you transfer the "lockout" weather over to the new map? (gemini works best)
2. Did you recursively extract the sbsp tag? You will need to in order to build it into the new map.
3. Did you use the weather tool to add weather to the sbsp?
4. Did you build the sbsp into a different map? (gemini obviously)

That should be about it. If the answer to each question is yes, then you should have weather.
