my Halo CE update isnt working :/

ok so i downloaded Halo CE, and it needs to be updated to play multiplayer games. so it downloads the update but it just stays at the "Updating the game" screen forever. ive waited an hour but the update didnt work.if you press any button or click anything while its "updating the game" my computer will freeze and i have to shut it down. ive tried downloaded the patch from other sites, but when i install it into the game, the same thing happens. ive also tried redownloading Halo CE twice, and it didnt do anything. can someone please help me i cannont play Halo CE

yea yesterday i pretty much cleaned up my computer. i used disk cleanup, speed disk, disk defragmenter, and Ad-Aware SE Personal.so i;d says its in pretty good condition

ok Halo CE works now. I have to give a big thanks to someone named DM01 on the IRC chat. for anyone else who has this problem do these steps:
1. Reboot your computer.
2. before the Windows loading screen, the company that made your computer (mine is Emachines), there should be a POST (thats what people call it ) screen having their logo on it. at that time press F8 as much as u need to until a screen appears.
3. select the option (Safe Mode)
4. now start up Halo CE and download the update, by going into multiplayer.
5. it will download and instlall it into the game. it wont take long.
6.and there u go its updated and u can now play Halo CE .
