Saving a skin

Ok, i have been having trouble doing this. I want to skin something (Halo PC) and when im done i try saving it different ways like ex. i'll out like a 1-bit alpha or try using all MIP maps. So i need a little help here.

look in dothalo or whatever you use and see if its a DXT1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 and save it as the same thing.
