Either hold the windows button, and then press "R".
This will bring up a "Run box", now type in "explorer.exe" without the quotes. Then hit enter.

If that process does not work, try to right click and uncheck the option that says "Hide my Desktop". This is for older computers and I do not believe that XP supports this function.

yah lots of times. first it shows the icons and stuff for like 2 seconds and then it all dissappears. that only happens after it shows that welome sign thingy when it first shows ur desktop.

To open the control panel, hold down the windows button (previously posted), and then hit "R".
This will bring up a run dialong box. In this box, type in "cmd" without the quotes.
Once the Command Prompt is open, type in "control" minus the quotes.

Hey heres a tip, if your computer brand is ACER there is your problem, if its not there is hope yet, my suggestion is, if you have a friend take out your harddrive and put it in his computer or anyones and if it doesnt work and the same thing comes up reformat it, and just redownload everything, or i could send u a dvd with everything on it.

usually it does just mean theres a problem with ewxplorer.exe and usually an "end now" sequence comes up but by the sounds of things it not, so if the ctr+alt+delete method dont work your in a dilly of a pickle
