Well to be honest im not the best computer expert around, and my computer was built by a friend of mine. So i wanna get a better graphics card, and right now i have the Radeon x700. I was looking at the 850, but im not sure if thats better the any Nvidia cards out there. Im trying to get somthing better then what i have. I heard that it can depend on your computers specs, such as motherboard and such, so here's a short specs list.
Asus Intel 925/915 Series Motherboard
Pentium 4 CPU 3.20GHz
Ya... i would like some multiple cards to choose from. And price isnt an issue at all. Thanks for your help

here's a quick buying quide:
find out what slot you have in your pc, it's most likely either AGP or PCIe x16 (ask your friend) or, find out on your own using
everest
now once you've determinede your slot, make sure your searches are for cards that use the correct interface (basically, don't buy an AGP card if you have a PCIe x16 slot)
now here's the things you want to make sure are high-quality:
GPU clock
memory clock
memory type ( DDR, DDR-2, or DDR-3, and DDR < DDR2 < DDR3)
but don't focus entirely on clock speeds! pipelines matter too! for example...
if there's an 8 pipeline card with a GPU clock of 500 mhz, you can probably get better performance out of a 16 pipeline card, even if it's GPU clock is slightly lower
and to keep you from getting confused, the videocard, at the most basic level, renders a scene pixel-by-pixel. the number of pipelines actes like the width of an interstate, with each pixel-to-be-rendered as the cars. the more pipelines, the more pixels that can be rendered at a time.
well, that's about as basic as i can get it, but you'll want to read up on it a bit more, and try and get your friend to help you too.

If you upgrade upgrade to PCI-E(xpress).First check if you have PCI-E.Why would you upgrade from a already good graohic card to one where you won't notcie and dufference

Alright i used the everest program and this:
Im just posting the picture to be sure. So i have PCI Express x16. So what cards does that limit me to.
lol, sorry im more of a software person, not a hardware
EDITL: and see ho it says i have 2 PCI express ports, dose that mean i can have 2 graphics cards?

You can't ave two but basically you can

.Anyway i wouldn't upgarde that card.Dunooo why you want cause there aren't anygames who can fully use your Graphicard capacity. So it would be dumb to upgrade

well the card i have now has serious over heating problems. I can play CS source, on the lowest display settings, for about 30 mins, and everquest 2 for about 5 mins. Then the colors get distorded, then the models get messed up, and then it just freezes and the sound loops. I sent it in to get repaired and even with 5 fans it dosnt do shit. So its christmas, and i have everything i want, so i might as well get a new card. I tryed getting a refund or a replacment from the company, but they just kept blaming the game. and i could play Source with my old 25 dollar graphics card

so its not a graphics problem. all your probs are being caused by heat. why dont u get one of those refrigerated cases??
