Harder rainfall

if any of you have seen DetlaHang you know waht im talking about. In my delta hang i decided to put rain and some other stuff in it. Well yuo cant really see the rain that well and the bitmaps turn up gray when i try to edit them and i always wanted to know how do you make rain fall harder and faster.
