have used the toothpaste trick and it
did work for me. I used some Crest with those sparkly whitening strips. I don't think the kind of toothpaste matters much though.

Dr.Cox, I'd invite you to think about this. The toothpaste tricked worked for me, but it might not for you. It depends on how bad the DVD's are scratched in the first place. But think, if the DVD fixer is roughly $20, and that will only fix the DVD's vs. $20 that will fix your Xbox from messin' with future DVD's, I'd suggest going for the real fix and not the temporary solution.
I do agree with V0Lt4Ge though: Try laying down your Xbox before you go and spend much monies.
Let me know if the toothpaste thing works for you if you do decide to give it a whirl. I'd like another witness.
