couple questions

Post by AbeFroman »

i'm not very well educated on how computers work so i have a couple questions to ask the people that do know stuff like this so that i can get a new computer that is good for the stuff i want to do on the computer

1. what does a quad core processor do for a computer as compared to a dual core processor?

2. Memory makes the computer run faster right? or am i wrong?

3. if i have an option to get a free copy of halo 2 with the computer when i get it with vista instead of XP, should i do it even though i dislike vista?

4. How much space on the HD does a full game take up these days?

5. Is it worth getting a second HD if you already have 1 good one?

6. CD-RW/DVD-RW Drive Help me choose
8x Dual Format DVD±R/±RW + 16x CD-R/RW Combo Drive [D901C]
2X BD-R/8X DVD±R/2.4X +DL Blu-ray Drive [D901C][This one will add $499 to the cost]

7. What's the difference between a gaming mouse and a normal mouse?

8. regarding Memory, what do Corsair, Mushkin, and Kingston HyperX mean?

Btw, this is all regarding laptops

1. Laptops do not have quad core processors yet, but quad cores are a lot better because it can handle intense tasks, multitasking, and process things faster.

2. Yes. try and get 1 gig or more if you are going to use Vista.

3. You have to have a very good video card to play Halo 2 Vista.

4. Halo 2 Vista takes up to 7 gigs. I recommend a 250gb hard-drive.

5. Only if you download tons of files that cannot fit on the original one.

6. It really depends. Are you going to be burning Blu-Ray DVDs?

7. Don't know.

8. They are different brands of RAM.

Hope I helped! :D

The difference with gaming mouses are their sensitivity. They are usually more sensitive for faster gaming.

how much space would something like GTA IV take up for PC? cuz what i'm most excited for with having a new computer is actually being able to fit modern video games on it (my computer is full with Halo pc, that's excluding Custom Edition)...and about quad cores not being available for Laptops, i beg to differ

and you said i would need to have a good video card to play H2Vista, but that doesn't answer the question, considering the fact that i don't like vista and that Halo 2 is'nt really my favorite halo game (although it is a good deal to get it free if you choose vista), should i get vista with a free copy of halo 2? or get XP?

other than that, those answers are very helpful, thanks

I stand corrected... Laptops didn't have quad cores when I bought mine and that was a few months ago... Modern PC games are going to take up a lot more hard-drive space so I recommend a pretty big drive. Like a 200-400gb one. As for Vista, I highly recommend it. It's a lot better than XP. it has more features and XP is just rather old now. And some games in the future may only be Vista compatible.

If I were buying this laptop, I would use this configuration:

Case ( Battalion 101 D901C-U 17" WUXGA 1920X1200 Widescreen LCD TFT Notebook w/Li-ion battery, Universal AC Power Adapter )
Processor ( [=== Quad Core ===] Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q9550 (4x 2.83GHz/12MB L2 Cache/1333FSB) Free 4GB Pen Drive )
Free Software/Game ( Free Game - [Halo 2] must purchase with Microsoft Windows Vista operation system )
Memory ( 4 GB(2 GB X2) DDR2-800 PC6400 [Notebook Memory] )

External Hard Drives [USB 2.0/eSATA] ( None )
CD-RW/DVD-RW Drive ( 8x Dual Format DVD±R/±RW + 16x CD-R/RW Combo Drive [D901C] )

Sounds like a good choice! I recommend that configuration, but you may have trouble playing some games with that video card.

I don't know how much RAM a Radeon 9250 has, but having one with a higher amount of RAM will decrease lag as well.

Can't you only have 3 gigs of ram with vista 32-bit?
