Sig too large - File Size

Post by Modtrocity »

Ok, I made another sig and once again it's too big. (96k) I saved it as a .png and it's still too big. Could someone decrease the size of it or tell me how to?

Thanks! ^_^

Just save it with a slightly lowered quality. It's not even noticeable.

Also, if you're just saving as a standard PNG, it's almost always going to be larger than a jpeg. Considering yours doesn't appear to have any transparency or specific reason for using PNG, just stick with JPG.

+1

If you're using Adobe Illustrator, just use File -> Save to Web and Devices (I think?). Then you can choose JPEG, and choose the quality from a slider of 1-100. It also gives you a more accurate estimated file size than normal Save As does.

I usually save it in .jpg and it's always larger than anything else. I use photoshop and it doesn't allow me to choose the quality when saving in png.

Is there a way to compress the file?

That's why you should use JPG, it will prompt you with a quality dialog when saving. Lower it to 11 or 10 (From the full 12).

Also, Photoshop does allow for varied PNG saving via the File > Save for Web option.

Short version:
Use JPG.
Lower quality.

When you use save for web, a slider should come up with quality settings. 1 through 12.

Here: I compressed it for you

I decreased the quality in photoshop for .jpg and it said it was 70k.

I uploaded it to my webspace and it says 90k.... wtf

Here's the lower quality one.

EDIT: Thanks HP. :)

Saving as a JPG, regardless of using SfW or not, always prompts me for a quality. Is this not a default of Photoshop?

Same here, but from what he's talking about I guess he doesn't get that. Or maybe he just skips through it.

Sorry to hijack, but I'm having a similar problem with my avatar. It is around 50x80 and even when I save it with 0 quality it is over 10kb. It is only one layer too.

I do get it in photoshop. I saved it as .png originally because they're generally lower. I saved it as jpg and reduced the quality. It then said (after reducing the quality) the file size was 70k. Then I upload it to photobucket and my webspace and it says it's 90k. Idk why it does that but... oh well.
