Post by Cryticfarm »

When ever I hold the middle mouse button to move everything turns into there bounding box. This is very annoying.

i know what you're talking about, but i forget how to fix it the best way. the only way i can think of is to delete (or rename) the config file in the root of your 3ds max directory, but this will make you do some setup stuff next time you start up 3ds max.

Press O to disable adaptive degradation.

I believe you can also change the viewport settings, which may be the problem as well. Right click the viewport name and go to Configure, from there, tweak the Adaptive Degradation settings. This is assuming it isn't the regular toggle, O. From experience, it's often the hotkeys causing problems, as it's easy to accidentally hit them and not know what you did.

Thanks it worked. I'm sure it was the hotkey because when I adjusted viewport settings it still stayed the same.

i second the hotkey thing tural, but removing the [3ds max install directory]\3dsmax.ini file won't break the program, only start in a sort of default mode and ask you to setup some things through some easy-to-follow prompts. sure, messing with important program files like this is dangerous, and you should definitely always back them up, but in this case i can speak for experience (for 3ds max 7 at least) that it won't kill your program.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
You should not delete configuration files. If you managed to change something without editing the configuration file directly, you can change it back without doing so as well.

Also, I never said it would break it, or do any harm. I just said don't do it because it's the wrong thing to do, which it is.
