I have a problem with an hp pavillion ze4400 notebook

Post by G.I.R. »

So I'm trying to fix this laptop for a friend of mine; but when I power it on, it stays on for just a few seconds (at a black screen; the screen doesn't even light up) and then shuts back off. Does anybody know what this problem might be related to? (New battery, RAM, maybe flash CMOS?)

Sounds like a battery? I'm not sure, that's what my guess would be.

does it POST? (the beep it does when it starts up)

sounds like the BIOS is messed up. maybe see if you can get into a BIOS menu at sometime.
ASPARTAME: in your diet soda and artificial sweeteners. also, it's obviously completely safe. it's not like it will cause tumors or anything. >.>

Try removing and replacing the battery before trying to boot. That works sometimes.

I would think it's a BIOS problem as well, but I can't even get to the BIOS menu.

EDIT: So I removed the battery to try and run it straight from AC, but it just does the same thing (except for the fact that it stays on for just a tad longer).

I'd try opening up your laptop, see if you can get to the motherboard and take out the little battery for the BIOS clock and other stuff. That MIGHT work, but I dunno.

That had been suggested to me, and I would do it; but I can't find my screwdriver/computer repair kit. ;_;
