Should I get this Video Card?

Post by Zildjian »

Hi, I am having some problems with the video card I am currently running and I need assistance from a profesional.
I am running the ATI Radeon 9200 128mb, Halo looks fine and everything (except for the Invisibility, it looks all white and flashy) but my computer restarts all the time while I'm playing, it gets so annoying! Ive tryed so many things to fix it that Im sick of it and I just want to get a new card.
So, Ive been told that the Radeon 9800 XT is the best, but there is alot of different versions of that card, it gets me confused.
So the only version I could find at a low price is this one
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDe ... 19R&depa=0
I just need someone to tell me if it's a good card for halo (as in looks and performance), can someone plz help? And could you tell me if this card supports direct X 9?

Well, since it is the best card, a decent price is going to be hard to find. That one is refurbished, which is why it is around 300 rather than 400. I would personally either downgrade to a 9600XT if you want to pay 300. Because you would be better off getting a new card that isn't as powerful than a refurbished ultimate card.

Assuming you have 500 dollars, the best variation of the 9800 XT is the ASUS 9800 XT. It comes with a decent video editor, and a free coupon for HL2 (which anyone who buys the card should get).

Also assuming you have a decent CPU. If you have a low end processor, considering upgrading that first. You wouldn't imagine that upping your processor speed and Bus speed would make your graphics better. Don't get fooled that graphics cards are the only thing that determine your graphics. If you have a last-generation p4 card, then you would be better off getting the 9600 XT. If you havea new generation or amd64 card, and a compatible mobo (motherboard), then you would be best off with the 9800XT, assuming the money is available.

Good luck, oh, and don't forget the nVidia 5950 Ultra. It is 300 dollars I think, and it comparable to the ATI Radeon 9800XT. (comparable, definetely not as good).

I had the same issue with my nVidia. Everything kept freezing and restarting on me. You can get a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro for $300 though. Pretty good.

yea but its not when I try to change my video resolution, its while im playing, I hate it, I can never play. All my other games work fine; Call of Duty, CounterStrike, and Final Fantasy 11.
What kind of information would you need me to tell you so you could figure the best card for my comp?
By the way, I only have about 300 dollers, and I dont think Ide be able to get 200 more.
