The n00b Tutorial to BASIC Xbox Modding

Frist off, im assuming that you have some basic computer skillz and experience. If you read this and think "What is this guy on about?" then seriously consider if you SHOULD be attempting to Mod your Xbox, remember... stick to PC, as it IS a lot easier to mod. Xbox carries the advantages of the trainer, graphical superiority (to people like me with a GeForce2 graphics card), and sheer satifsaction and entertainment of 16 people sitting in a room, flying around bloodgulch in warthogs.
OK, so here goes:
1. Get a modchip, halomods.com will give you NO information on how to do this, or how to install a modchip. For infomation on chips, visit www.xbox-scene.com
2. Install EvoX or other hacked dashboard onto your xbox. Again, www.xbox-scene.com for info, try searching for "SlaYers Installer", in my opinion that is the quickest and easiest way to go about it.
3. Start Halo, and load the map you want to mod (eg, bloodgulch). Then quit and reboot your xbox, loading EvoX.
4. Run the FTP server in EvoX, this will tell you your xbox's ip address. Type this into a FTP client, any will do, with the username as xbox, and password as xbox. Browse to the X,Y,or Z drives on ur xbox where the cache files are stored. Transfer these over to your computer.
5. Look for the cache with the most recent 'Last Modified' date, this will be the level you just played, in this case it was bloodgulch (Multiplayer levels are cache003-5.map)
6. You can now either:
a) Open the map in your favorite hacking app (hmt, hht, sparkedit, whatever) and edit the map anyway you like
a2) For die hard modders theres always the good old hex editor ( I recomend this one: http://www.hhdsoftware.com/hexeditor.html )
b) Patch the .map file with a .ppf (Use PPF-O-MATIC http://files.halomods.com/viewforum.php?f=10 )
c) Replace the .map file with a new one
7. After making any changes you want, FTP the edited cache(s) back to your xbox. To play your mod, just load the level again, and enjoy playing with your wonderful modded map.

-=Info on Xbox Versions=-
Xboxs come in 4 types:
NTSC (American)
PAL (Europe)
JAPAN NTSC (Japan)
GERMAN PAL (Germany)
PAL mods wont work with an NTSC copy of halo, and NTSC mods wont work with PAL. So, a PAL mod is a mod for a xbox PAL game etc.

Located on the Xbins IRC channel on Efnet, you can use the xbins chan bot to gain a temp user/pass for the xbins FTP. Here you can find many Hacking APPs (Not just for halo), but remember that some are less legal than others. Also, the Halo trainer (both NTSC and PAL varieties) can be found here.
