in this tutorial, we will be learning how to change the name of an item that you get in/pick up. Here we will be changing the pistol to an uzi.
NOTE. CLICK ON PICTURES TO ENLARGE THEM
things you will need
http://www.bpsoft.com/downloads/index.html(Hex Workshop)
uhhh...thats it
first, open up hex workshop(there seems to be some confusion between hex editor and hex workshop).
Image
Then open the map you want to edit, in this case bloodgulch (big surprise  ).
Image
After that, go to the "Edit" pulldown menu, and click on find(or press Ctrl+f). Make the settings on the find menu like the one in the picture(you can replace the word pistol with whatever your editing)
Image
wait for it to finish searching, and then look at the bottom right. There should be a list of results. The next image further explains it.
Image
Place the cursor just before the "P". Replace that with a U, then press the right arrow key, press Z, etc. After you have done that, you should have something that looks like "Uzitol". do NOT try and delete those letters yet.
Image
to delete the extra letters, press the right arrow key till the cursor is in front of the letter. Then simply just press space till they are gone.
NOTE. YOU CANNOT MAKE THE NEW NAME LONGER THAN THE ORIGINAL, OR THOSE LETTERS WON'T SHOW UP!!!!!!!!
Then click save, and when it asks you if you want to make a backup press no. Well, you don't have to, its easier to just back up the .MAP files, instead of a .BAK file. What I do is back up my maps, and compress them with winRAR so they don't take up as much space.

If anyone has any trouble with this, feel free to pm me.

You can get around the expiratoin for Hex Workshop. First click 'Unlock'. Then , without filling in anything just click okay. You will get an error. Click okay to the error, then click Cancel in the unlock menu. It will put you on Hex Workshop so you can use it. 8)

Just to clarify: In the Tutorials Forum it doesn't really matter because your bumping a topic yes but it's not like it's just a one year old answer to some question.

and for xbox maps you need to decompress the map 1st before editing in hex workshop, otherwise it will not find any text strings.
