Xbox General - Burning Games to your HDD/How to set up FTP

Post by GametagAeonFlux »

So you have a brand new modded Xbox and you don't know what to do with it, eh? Well we can always
start off by burning a game (or few if you bought a bigger Hard Drive).

What you're going to need:
dvd2xbox (can be found at Xbins, don't know what that is? Read here: http://www.how2xbox.com/xbins.htm )
An ftp client (I recommend FlashFXP, found here: http://download.flashfxp.com/zip/FlashFXP_32_Setup.exe )
A dashboard for your Xbox (I recommend EvoX, it's very user friendly, and skinnable)
Any game that you're just sick of carrying around a disc for ;)

Ok, on to the tutorial!

Step 1: Unzip/Unrar all the contents of the dvd2xbox.zip/rar that you got into a folder (note the folder can be named anything, but I'll use dvd2xbox in this tut)
Step 2: Connect to your Xbox with an FTP client such as FlashFXP, WS_FTP, etc.
If you don't know how to connect to your Xbox, follow this tut *designed for EvoX users*

Mini tut Step 1: Go to System Utils

Mini tut Step 2: Go to Settings

Mini tut Step 3: At the very top you should see Network, along with several other things, set Use Static IP to Yes.
Image

Mini tut Step 4: Scroll down further until you see FTP, set Enable to Yes, and the Password to anything you want, the default is "xbox" sans quotes.
Image

Mini tut Step 5: Under your FTP Client, go to Connect, and enter the numbers from the IP section into the slot for IP in the Client.
Mini tut Step 6: In the UserID slot, type in "xbox" sans quotes, and the same for the password, or whatever you have for the password.

Mini tut Step 7: Yay, you're done, now you should have 2 windows, by default, the left one is your computer, and the right one is a list of all the Xbox's drives.

MAJOR IMPORTANT NOTE: To keep the connection to your Xbox, you MUST be at the dashboard, you can not be playing a game, or using an app.

Quick Batman! To the Tutorial....ermmm Cave?

Step 3: In E: or F:, create a folder "apps" sans quotes once again *note this IS in the Xbox's E/F:, not your computer's*

Note: If you purchased/installed a larger hard drive, F: is going to be the drive with the most space, so put your Games and Apps in there.

Step 4: FTP the dvd2xbox folder into the apps folder.
Step 5: Reboot your Xbox.
Step 6: Go to Launch Menu->Apps->dvd2xbox.

If it does not show up, make sure that.......
1. The apps folder is in E/F: not C:
2. That the default.xbe is in the root directory of dvd2xbox *E/F:\apps\dvd2xbox\default.xbe*
3. In your EvoX.ini that this line is in there
AutoAddItem "e:\apps\"
AutoAddItem "f:\apps\"

Step 7: Once dvd2xbox is FULLY loaded, as in you are at the main menu, open up the disc tray and pop in any ole' Xbox game.
Step 8: At the very bottom of your screen, you should see DVD:, wait for it to say DVD:Xbox Software XXXXmb.
Step 9: Go to Copy DVD/CD-R to HDD
Step 10: Go to either E:\Games\ or F:\Games\, use F:\Games\ if you have a upgraded HDD, if not, stick with E:\Games\
Step 11: Wait for the game to finish burning.
Step 12: After it says processing ACL, make sure all the files were transferred correctly *it should say if there's an error or not*
Step 13: Go to Game Manager and press A to launch the game.
Step 13 (alt): Go to Boot to Dash, then in EvoX, go to Launch Menu->Games->Your Game Here

Congratulations! You've just learned how to FTP to your Xbox and how to burn games to your Hard Drive
