PC: Easy- How To Install a .dds File
Okay, this is for all the Newbie's
I feel for and understand the newbie to the Modding world, that is why I have responded again, and again , and again, and again, and again on how to install a skin. I help cause I would want someone to help me and not write insulting nOOb remarks back at me. Nobody should ahve to ask a question and end a sentence with "...I really am sorry for asking tihs nOObish question, please don't blast me, please."
But one must realize that if you have a question chances are it has been asked already and someone answered. If I EVER need an answer I first refer to the Oracle of the internet Starts with a G ends with an E Take a guess.........................................................................................................Google!!! Sometimes they don't have a fountain of info like we want, so then find a site that specializes in what you want to do. Like here!
Hit those forums, do a scan, then if you do not see it, check the tutorials, there are lots of those out there with Pics included to make it super easy! Everyone should have a read me with a post, that is common (i hope). Then pop the question to us if you really are jammed, AND FOR GOD SAKE BE SPECIFIC, WE WANT DETAILS. The experienced people really just want to know you did some work on your own (mostly, there are jerks who want to feel important by downing a nOOb, they are insecure, forget them.)
so here it is
HOW TO INSTALL A .DDS FILE
You need 2 things
Halo Map Tools and Microsoft .NET Framework
to make it a one stop place go here so you may get both.
http://skindeep.halocity.org/
Make a new folder so you may back-up your original files.
Install .NET and then open Halo Map Tools (HMT)
From HMT open you actual Halo folder, there will be 5 subfolders.
Open MAPS.
Select a stage with the skin you want to change. say the Banshee, well then open BloodGulch. a bunch of files will open in HMT. Select 'BITMAPS' this has over 400 sub-files. Scroll down to Vechicles.
It should say Vehicles/banshee/bitmaps/banshee
click that. now you see the image of the banshee.
click save texture and put this in that back-up folder you made. (in case you want the old one back.)
Click import texture.
find the new banshee.dds file and hit open.
BOOM! your done, now close out of HMT and your off.

Any modding Veterans please use this thread to link to if by some chance the question comes up again so you will not have to write it all out, OR BAD MOUTH THE NEW GUY.
to the nOOb, hey we all were nOObs at some point, and we still ask questions to even more advanced modders.

You should submit your stuff to the Halomods tutorials. It's not what this forum is for, but tons of hapless newbs have been asking about this. For now, I'm going to call leaving this post alone the lesser of two evils.
Anyway, add it to tuts, and/or add it to Aztec's FAQ sticky in the Halo PC Modding General forum.

that is why I put it in here, I know they don't think to check the Documents section. sorry. I just wish it would stay at the top so it would be one of the first they see.gryphon wrote:You should submit your stuff to the Halomods tutorials. Nevermind, I found it. All your tutorials are a great help and inspiration Quaglino. Thanks for putting out information that helps everyone understand how and what to do with modding. I have only been doing this for a few days and I know you aren't the only one who helps (without prejudice) but with all you have added to the forums I am already starting my first skin and my first maps (one modded, one from scratch with 3D software). Thanks man U ROCK !!!!
P.S. My eyes are on fire from so much reading lol. Thanks again
