This tutorial is mean't to be the noob guide on how to jailbreak your iphone to allow you to put mods and community created applications onto your very own Iphone! First off let's talk!

What devices does this work on

• -Iphone 3g
  -Iphone 1st gen
  -Ipod Touch 1st gen

Why should I jailbreak my Iphone? What does it give me?

• -Allows you to store files on your Iphone
  -Allows you to download applications that normal phones can't
  -Better battery life in some cases
  -So many choices on skins and interface options are available
  -Able to turn your Iphone into a modem
  -You'll be cool
  -EVERYTHING FROM ORIGINAL STILLS WORKS! (All itunes music, apps, and everything still syncs perfectly!)

I'm still scared, what could happen if I mess up?

• -You can't completely destroy your Iphone!
  -If at anytime you may do a restore to original version!
  -Loose data (very rare for phone to crash and not start up, and I have never heard of it).
  
  *One note: When you jailbreak it is possible to loose your data, MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP! In almost all cases jailbreaking saves everything and your phone will look the same but you'll have new apps*

So now you wan't to jailbreak your Iphone eh? Well then lets follow the basic, EASY steps to jailbreak your phone!


1) First off, lets make sure you have a good working backup from itunes! Generally Itunes creates backups on its own, to make sure your phone is always saved. But I never trust those dirty backups! So first lets...

• -Consolidate your music libary so that you have all music together nice and neat!
  -Have your contacts backup'd using the itunes software. I have mine sync'd with windows contacts!

2) Now then lets download the files for our jailbreak! You can grab each of them at the

3) Now then, make sure you have all your things backup! Shall we start?

• Connect your Iphone via USB to your computer, make sure you have Itunes closed.

• Once you connected to your Iphone it will scan for the backup automatically

• Now click on the arrow and you will be prompted to pick what you want installed, DON'T ADD THE LOGO (linked to bad flashes)

• Now you need to do some things in order to set your phone into recovery mode (allowing the software to upload). If you don't get it the first time, repeat the steps on the list, you don't need to close the software, just count in your head! Once you did it all correctly, QuickPwn will automatically send over the software!

• During the upload, Quickpwn will have a progress bar when uploading (see below picture), once Quickpwn says done, UNPLUG YOUR IPHONE from the USB! Your Iphone will continue to process the newly uploaded information

YOUR DONE! LET THE IPHONE DO ITS THING AND IT WILL RESTART! GIVE IT AROUND 5 MINS!

Troubleshooting

• Q: I just got done with quickpwn uploading my software to my Iphone, and after the phone stays in a black screen and doesnt boot up!
  A: Its possible the jailbreak didn't work correctly, there are a few things I would suggest. Make sure you unplugged it after Quickpwn was done uploading. Next you are going to redo the QuickPwn, just follow the steps, it will do the same thing even if your Iphone won't start up.
  
  Q: My phone takes forever to start up!
  A: This will happen once you install alot of apps, mine takes around a minute!
  
  Q: My battery dies REALLY Fast.
  A: Somthing you installed probally ran a backround daemon killing the battery, keep track of what you install and its effects. If you can't figure it out, nuke your phone and reinstall the jailbreak.

So, now what?

• -You now have a program called Cydia, using this you may install many fine community apps that have been created. Beaware some are trials (you have to pay to use it through online accounts) but there is no possible way it can charge you on your phone.
  - Cool apps like Cycorder let you use a video camera record. There are hundreds of apps you can install, so many such as Iphone Modem!

You don't need a firmware, QuickPwn uses the original firmware in your itunes, which is already downloaded.

I've only done it three times, but I've never had a problem when adding the logo.

Doesn't this program only support something like the latest three firmwares besides the one released...yesterday was it? So i'd suggest putting somewhere in there that your ipod needs to be atleast updated to a certain firmware version. Which did happen to me with the iPod Touch 1st gen. It specifically told me I needed a firmware version of 2.x.x or along those lines. Also the program isn't meant for officially updating your firmware either.

That's some of my take based on xzodia's claims. No disrespect to you p8 but dear god if a person needs a tutorial for using quickpwn, you shouldn't be messing with it in the first place. (I know people are going to argue but i'm not delving deeper into it. Send a PM if you want to argue.)

tl;dr

I've used quickpwn on the ipod touch v2.2, and everything's been working fine so far. if you've got a touch/iphone, you've gotta give jailbreaking it a shot.

ipod setup: terminal emulator, netcat, irssi, nmap, ssh client & daemon, and shitloads of other terminal tools. I've got an NES emulator and doom, a MAC address spoofer, and document reader (.pdfs, .doc, .rtf, many others).

If I have the time, I may figure out how to get my own code running on this thing, but we'll see...
