Why is the floor reflective? It's really taking away from the models.

im still learning things and i thought that making the floor reflective would make the scene look cool cause it was different and cool

The reflection drops the detail level down a lot. Try getting a better angle, and making the detail more apparent.

Both renders are poorly done... What program are you using?

It looks absolutely nothing like diamond plate. I'd bet that anyone looking at it would guess you were aiming for a water look. When you're just using the plane as a space-filler, don't give it such a distracting material. A flat, single color is sufficient.

what about like the tile pattern or a wood?

I, personally, would never use a texture unless it was relevant to my scene. Using a texture for the sake of using a texture is just drawing attention away from the important aspects of the image, especially if it's something obnoxious.

ok so just kill the lights unless im going for a reflective thing and just use a basic grey background then?

Hmm I learned 3ds max Completely from books or videos if youd like but that render looks good but it could look better when it comes to lighting and i think vray is perfect for that kind of stuff like water and reflections and transparencies. If not just make there be some shadows or something on the water if you can.

Use a default material for the plane. Then learn how to use hdr probes for lighting, and go find a tutorial for metallic materials.
