Here's my entry in the high-polly modeling competition. Right now I'm just making a WIP thread, but I will post updates.

Reference I am using. (One of many.)

Also, the body is being redone, the shape was all screwed up.

the purpose of high poly isn't to have 50 sided cylinders. it's to have a clean mesh with an intense amount of detail.

no wasn't talk to you tom GAWD! lol no crytic was like lol larger cylinders!

-_-

boolean is nice for certain kinds of RIS but i've come up with other ways that are quicker and just efficient as boolean. it's nice but too time consuming in some cases. tweek like loves boolean >_>.

i'm interested in seeing how this turns out. as just a fun, no intention or limitations kind of model it looks ok so far

It is time consuming, but it all depends on how you do boolean. I detach the face(s) I'm going to boolean then reattach them when done.

As for RIS rails, I just use the connect and extrude tool. :P

Thanks. I'm hoping to have multiple variations of this model too.

Look forward to an update tomorrow.

You made me a portfolio. It's the least I could do.

I also did it for practice. ;P

Update:

Just finished modeling the magazine. You may be thinking 'Hey, that looks like an M16 magazine.' Well it is. the XCR-L uses the M16 magazine for universal purposes.

What would that do?

The fun part about this is, you can make a model REALLY detailed without wasting polies, I think thats his motivation, to get a nice, yet clean high poly model.

Yes, it is, CDK is just being ignorant/moronic right now.

For all the people that think saying 'Add [insert made up number] pollies and thinks it's funny', please keep that crap out of this thread. I don't want to hear it, and I'm sure nobody else does. It's not funny, and just shows how ignorant and moronic you are.

And the grooves are fine, they just don't look curved. in that render.

Saddamsevil: You're exactly right. My motivation to get this done is to make a high-poly and clean model. It's fun and shows others that most don't model 'just for games'. And that 2,000 triangles is 'OMG ALOT!!!11'.
