Lancer Assault Rifle

Here is my first ever attempt at making a new gun for HALO

It took about 3 weeks from start to this point (including modeling and texturing, AND 2 weeks of writing my animation export script). I still have a few things I want to do to it, like Make a SI and specular map for it, making non "assault rifle" strings, a few more FP animations, and better sounds. I also have some work to do on the textures still, like adding more decals, and dirt (and coloring in the saw blade). I made the model, textures, and all of the animations from scratch, so tell me what you think
The model has about 1572 faces, and after checking the model in GOW many many ... many times I think I have it pretty damn close the to one in GOW. Models and animations were done in 3ds max 9 [plug] with my fancy animation export script [/plug] and the textures were made in photoshop CS2
Bla bla bla... Now for the reason you all clicked, the pictures!

good work. Skin kinda lacks detail though. Still, i like it.

the opacity map for the teeth lacks. you may want to make it a bit higher res so it doesnt looks so bad.

Yeah, I pretty much just threw that on when I was trying to figure out how to make the teeth animate in halo (yes they do), and I never really made a new one

As for the rest of the texture I'm planing on adding some dirt, rust, and of course, blood to it. As well as some more decals. I pretty much suck at making textures so I'm learning as I go. I'm actually planing on making this into a H2V mod when I get it, so it will look allot better with normal maps.

nice job, it would be nice if we could see the blade while he is cutting everyone up.

I really wanted to do that, but when I was making the fp animations if the gen was angled so you could see the blade the left hand looked really unnatural. In fact I spent all of this time trying to figure out how to have the blade "spin" while it was running and you couldn't event see it in the end
**Edit** Yes, that is my tatooine map... It was my first map, too. It kind of sucked in the end, so I turned it into my test map.

Fix up the UVing and slap some sort of detail map on the shader.

What part of the UV map is wrong? The only parts that stretch are ones I thought I didn't need to do (See the pink picture) But if you spotted a part that should be fixed, just tell me where.

That's probably because I didn't optimise it at all

When I finished the model it was under 2k triangles, so I decided to just throw it in... There are some places that could be welded, but I just don't think it really needs it. Then again I could do allot of the detail like epic did with just opacity maps... I hate that!
And here I was sort of proud of the texture

It is my best so far... trust me

Although it did get kind of nasty when it was compressed for Halo, I think I'm going to re-compress it as a R8G8B8. I don't care much if it goes any slower...

I think the texture should also be darker, it's a bit to bright
and a chainsaw has been made before but it didn't have a gun attached

Why not use a render of the Lancer as a texture? Sure, it's cheap and pretty unoriginal, but it works until you make a decent one of your own.

looks somewhat appealing, model is rather poor however, skin is bad, animations seem a bit inhuman. however i admire the fact you did all this yourself, and were quite creative, well done

. now just practice modeling and skinning. look for some good tutorials
